Re : Day For Alfie Fete (Charity Event supporting The Brain Tumour Charity / Alfie's Journey Fund
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you to enquire if it would be at all possible for you to support me and some other ladies that I work with, with a charity event we are hosting. The Fete is being held on Sat 6th June at St Benedict's Church, West Hunsbury, Northampton in memory of Alfie Thomas who also lived in West Hunsbury and supporting The Brain Tumour Charity / Alfie's Journey Fund.
Alfie was my friends little boy and I was his lunchtime supervisor at school also. Alfie was only 6 years old when he was diagnosed with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) an inoperable brain tumour located on his brain stem in July 2013. DIPG has a 0 percent survival rate and the only treatments are chemotherapy and Radiotherapy but these are only short term treatments as over time they make the tumour more aggressive. DIPG mainly affects children up until the age of 10 years old and life expectancy is between 6 - 12 months. Alfie was such a brave little soldier and he fought to stay for nearly a year, smiling all the time, even on his bad days bless him and they become more so as his illness progressed. Alfie earned his Angel Wings on the 2nd June, 2014 five days before we were to hold the Fete for his charity.
Even though everyone was heartbroken we went ahead with the Fete in Alfie's memory and it turned out to be an amazing day with a mixture of emotions. It brought our community together in support of Alfie's family whilst also supporting his charity. There was lots of sadness but surprisingly mainly happiness as everyone remembered and shared memories of what a lovely cheeky little boy Alfie was.
The Fete exceeded our expectations and raised a considerable amount of funds for Alfie's charity which we donated to The Brain Tumour Charity.
We are holding the Fete again this year as although we cannot support Alfie anymore we can carry on his legacy to help other children and their families going through this heartbreaking ordeal because of this cruel disease.
If it is at all possible for you to support us with a raffle prize for the Fete we would be ever so grateful and appreciative.
Thanking you for your time and for reading this message.
P.S. I am authorised by The Brain Tumour Charity to be a fundraiser for Alfie's Journey Fund / The Brain Tumour Charity.
My contact at the The Brain Tumour Charity is - Emma Watts.
