We loved the sweet rural ambiance of the farm, and the host, Mairi, was wonderful and welcoming. However, we chose this farm because of the goats. The website for Dancing Winds - which apparently hasn't been updated in a long while - suggests this is a working goat dairy. However, the dairy goats were dispensed with a while ago, and the owner is now semi-retired, with only a handful (6) of meat goats, which we saw for about 10 minutes on the day we arrived. In fairness, the owner did explain on the phone when I made the reservation (my email request went unanswered) that she had reduced her herd size, so perhaps I misunderstood something in her explanation. Since we came here to see a working goat dairy because we're interested in possibly starting our own, we were a bit disappointed. The BnB experience was pleasant - but honestly if we'd been clear on the goat situation (i.e., if the website had been more clear), we'd have booked a BnB in Lanesboro or another town closer to more activities.…

My wife and I just came back from a trip to Dancing Winds with our 4 year old and 2 year old. Let me say, this was a great family bonding experience. Mary, our host, was great. She welcomed us as we pulled into the drive way. Gave us a great tour our our small 1 bedroom farm house which would be our home for the night. The fridge was stocked with frech cheeses, and jams. There was everything we needed to make a great dinner that night. Steaks, Corn on Cob, baked potatoes and some fresh cheese. After dinner we had the highlight of the trip. Mary took us to meet her goats. The boys had a blast for over 2 hours playing with and feeding the goats. Mary let them carry hay bails, fill up the feeders and ultimately pet the goats. My wife was even able to hold a couple of the baby goats. A real treat for her for sure. After the goat interaction we retired to our farm house, and enjoyed some peaceful time on the deck wchih over looks Mary's backyard. There is a greata looking pond in the back whcih adds to the relaxing feel. The whole family just sat on the deck and talked for a good half hour. no TV, no video games, just great bonding time. Something very rare these days, especially with a 2yr old and 4 yr old. At dark we went to bed on the very comfortable sleep number bed. Mary even had a blow up mattress for my 4 year old, which he absolutely loved. The next morningn we woke up and visited the goats again. Mary let us tour on our own which was a little scary, but the goats are so well behaved that everything went great. When the boys tired of the goats we decided to check out Mary's walking paths. A nicely groomed path led to a small grass maze that the boys absolutely loved. they ran for a good half hour trying to make their way through the maze. What a great time. Ince they tired out, it was time to say goodbye. Overall a great family experience, and something I would highly recommend to anyone looking to check out of the busy world for a day or 2 and really relax. We will be back again!!…
