We spend 2 nights at Lakira camp and had a great experience. We wanted an intimate camp, away from from the busy lodges in Nakuru national park and we found all that we wanted! We were the only guests during our stay (this camp has only 6 tents). We had a 5 stars service: -really nice staff which makes everything possible to make sure you are having a great time - luxurious furnished tent, even with the bucket shower (hot shower on demand at any time) - delicious food, we had a buffet only for the two of us, lunch was specially arranged on the shore of the lake and dinner was in the mess tent The location is fantastic: you are really at the shore of the lake, inside the national park. I put only 4 stars rating because Lake Nakuru national park was the park we enjoyed the less of our trip in Kenya: very close to the town of Nakuru, no off road permitted, crowded park. But we managed to see few flamingos and rhinos. So, thanks to Lakira camp we had a very pleasant stay at Lake Nakuru

Lakira camp located inside the Nakuru National Park is the place to be when you want to get away from all the noise and bustles of the city. This camp offers serene views of the beautiful Lake Nakuru. An early morning drive offers views of the wild with possibility of seeing 3 of big Five(White Rhino, Lion, Buffalo) amongst other animals. 7 seven well made camps offers tranquility and intimacy. The staff are simply amazing!!!

Lakira Camp is an incredibly intimate little gem on the shores of Lake Nakuru within Nakuru National Park. It is a 'fly-camp'...meaning it is not permanent. Some girlfriends & I spent one night. It was waaaay too short!!! We were well entertained sitting around the camp fire by the many stories narrated by Saruni - the 'Lakira Maasai Warrior'. The Manager - Francis and his team are EXCELLENT! The food for all meals was delicious and generous! We only wished we had more 'tummy-space'! The tents are well-spaced, tastefully furnished and very comfortable for a 'bush-home'. You can tell there is a "woman's touch" in the attention to detail with plenty of storage spaces and items to add to your comfort. We did an early-morning game drive which was well worth it!!! Saw loads of animals - including a family of rhinos happily grazing. Breakfast was ready for us upon our return! Bliss!!! Really charming place! If you like being close to nature, yet with luxurious home-comforts..great food and service...well away from the 'maddening crowds'... you would love Lakira! We were all definitely inspired to return for an intimate, romantic getaway! We had a lovely departure lunch at the sister-camp: "Flamingo Hill Tented Camp". If you prefer more 'structured' camps, you would likely prefer Flamingo. For us though... it's Lakira all the way!!! On our drive out of the park, we were blessed to see 3 lionesses gloriously sprawled up a tree having an afternoon siesta! Love Lakira!

We loved our time at Lakira camp although I acknowledge it may not be for everyone? From the moment we arrived we were given such a warm welcome and the hospitality continued throughout out 2 night stay. The fact that we were the only 2 people there was fantastic in our opinion and certainly contributed to the appeal of staying there. We delighted by the seclusion of Lakira - so quiet and peaceful near the edge of Lake Nakuru. What also appealed to us was the fact that this was a more rustic type of camp - no manicured lawns or neat garden beds here. The immediate area has been cleared but the tents are still surrounded by trees and natural bush with an abundance of birds. We had our own guide/ driver who drove us from nairobi and took us on morning and afternoon game drives in the park where we saw a number of animals and birds. Apart from that it was wonderful to just relax at the camp reading or whatever? The staff were delightful - they could not have been nicer or more helpful - each and everyone of them. Saruni, the caretaker and camp masai was gorgeous. On a short walk at the back of the camp he showed us various plants used in bush medicine etc by the masai people. At night we had a campfire and because we were interested, he told us about some of the masai traditions/stories. When we were ready to return to our tent at night, he escorted us safely there. Handson, who looked after our room, filled our bucket shower with water each day and even offered to refill it - he was so obliging. We found that there was plenty of water for 2 people and never requested any more. I was surprised how well the bucket showers work - my introduction to them! The tents have a Middle Eastern sort of feel about them and the main tent/communal area is very comfortable and tastefully furnished with several choices of seating. Lots of comfy cushions - very attractive. Our tent was lovely and had a very comfortable bed with mosquito netting, the bathroom really large with attached shower with open roof. There was a wash bowl and water provided - cold water. One suggestion that would be good to have in the bathroom is perhaps a towel rack stand? We wished we could have stayed longer at this restful and laid back camp. The staff were so friendly and we were treated very well, another night or two would have been great. As I mentioned, this camp may not be for everyone as it is small and quiet but for us it was wonderful and we have such warm memories of our time there. Yes, the staff had a lot to do with that but it also provided us with the really unique experience of having a tented camp to ourselves. We were very fortunate because if we stayed again I'm sure we would have to share it with others!
