This is a review of Imagine Ireland property 13482. There is also another cottage on the same farm Imagine Ireland property 9467. We booked a week here at the beginning of April through Imagine Ireland. I did some research and realised that it was an ex hostel so didn't expect luxury. We knew there would be no dishwasher, washing machine etc. and that was fine. The Imagine Ireland website said it was on a visitor farm so that sounded great for the kids. We did however expect it to be clean and safe but it sadly wasn't. The first problem was that the staircase inside the house had an unguarded drop. There was just a wobbly rail (see the picture). Irish building regulations require any drop over 60cm to have guarding and this was a standard height staircase so at least a 10 foot drop. The more we looked round the worse it got. The property was pretty cold. Radiators were fitted but didn't work so the whole property was heated by an odd collection of electric heaters (plus an open fire). There was a really ancient looking heater with a cracked plug. When I unplugged it the plug socket it was in was cracked and charred (again see photos). In other rooms there were halogen and fan heaters non of which I would be happy to leave on when I was not in the room. In one of the bedrooms there was a large wardrobe that fell towards my son when he opened the door. We had to put an armchair infront of this to hold it up. In the kitchen the curtains hung right over the electric hob which we felt was a bit of a fire risk. On top of all this the house was pretty dirty and poorly presented. Grubby bathroom, microwave splattered with food inside, greasy wall by the cooker and no plugs for the sinks and bath. For a family of four we were left 3 hand towels and 3 small bath towels most of them really stained. If it had just been cleanliness and the temperature that had been the problem we would have asked the owner to rectify it but we felt the dangerous stairs, electrics and furniture was too risky. As it was late and we had travelled all day we turned off all the plug sockets and slept in one room with our young children to make sure they were safe. We left early the next day and had to find alternative accommodation. At this point (mid June 2016) we have only been offered £60 reimbursement through Imagine Ireland after spending £300 on booking the property.

We were looking for a fairy fort to visit on our way back to Cork from Tayto Park in Co. Meath as my eight year old niece is facinated with fairies so I did a Google search and found Fairy Fort Farm in Tipperary, I rang the owner Michael and asked if we could stop by and visit the fort and he kindly invited us to drop in. When we got there we met Michael who was absolutely lovely and his gorgeous dog Pippy he showed us all the animals, there were hens ducks geese ponies sheep rabbits a donkey and goats with King Billy the ram, we had a great time feeding the animals and then Michael showed us the trail that led to the fairy fort we had a great time exploring the fort there was also a tree house a picnic area and a lovely little stream with a little wooden bridge and waterfall a real children's paradise. The whole place is enchanting and we'll worth a visit.

My friend and I rented a car in Dublin and drove to Tipperary, arriving at O'Donnell's very late, like 1am. O'Donnell's Blue Star Hostel is kind of secluded. We had to pound on the owner's door to wake him up (we felt so guilty!). But he was so nice about it! There are some little cottages closer to the main property, but my friend and I were given rooms in this house a little ways away. The house was big, spacious, clean, and very comfortable. After lot of traveling and living in hotels, it felt like a home! We relaxed in the morning, used the kitchen, and watched Irish television for a little while. We then wandered up to the main property. The owner runs a small farming operation. It was incredible! He was so nice and gave us a tour of the farm. He let us tag along as he fed his animals and let us help milk a goat! He then showed us a fairy ring on his property and told us some Irish fairy tales. I was in Ireland for a week, staying in 6 different places, this was my FAVORITE! The owner and the property are incredible. O'Donnell's is pretty secluded and a little difficult to find. Get very good directions before setting off. But it's totally worth the journey!
