My husband and I enjoyed the garden so much that we visited twice. There’s a lookout tower behind the garden, and you can see Tennant Lake from the tower. There are loads of herbs in the garden.

This is a wonderful place for the family. There is a playground area. The picnic areas are rally nice. there is also an area that is undercover that can be used for a large gathering. The barn has old time tractors while the yard has animals. A lot of different/variety of events happens at this park. Plus the scenery , with Mt, Baker view is worth the trip thee to Hovender Homestead Park. . Plus. sometimes the house is open for visitors and it's really neat to see the old time ways. During the summer, the master gardeners have a garden and it's fun to see the garden. Some times a master gardener is on hand and you can ask garden questions.

This is a good place to go when you need to get away from it all! We have our Potlucks there some times, and it is good to go there!

Adult daughter and I came here for a walk. Did a short walk but LOVED the premises. We will definitely be back.

Hovander Homestead Park is a great venue for a lot of events usually held from Spring until Fall.
The centerpiece of the park is the Hovander family home, which offers daily tours from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The home was designed by Hokan Hovander for he and his wife, Louisa Leontine and their 7 children. The home and the grounds are really worth a stop in.
This past weekend, the park played host to the 2d Annual Bellingham Scottish Gathering. The event was a lot of fun, highlighting dancers, athletes, and pipe and drum bands. There were many clan tents as well as food and merchandise booths. It would be nice if next year the organizers could score some vendors with Scottish food, but still there was plenty to eat. It was really great being able to hear so many pipe and drum corps practicing as you walked around the grounds. I mean who doesn’t love the sound of. bag pipes.

Our daughter held her "gender reveal" party at Hovander this past weekend. She reserved the "Tower Picnic Area" which inclueded a 30x30 canopy. The canopy should have been installed with a bit more care. Legs were falling off and the canopy itself was so loose, that it was drooping and moving way to much in the wind. The park itself is very nice and the Ranger on duty allowed the "burnout" reveal to be done on the main road leading to the parking lot (as long as the chalk was washed down prior to leaving). Nature lovers would really enjoy the park and surrounding areas.

free parking..and a great place to walk. the historic house was a fun glimpse into the past,amazing construction especially the floors. The host in the house was very informative. We were here once and picked an apple fresh off the tree..delicious!

We took the grandkids here in June, they had a ball playing and looking at the animals. No food on site so bring your own. Watch out for geese...er….droppings, lol.

Farm animals for kids to see. Play equipment for kids to play on. Area to fly kites. Wonderful area for young children to bicycle. Everything is green. Bathrooms and garbage cans are not scattered throughout the park. Very centralized restrooms.

Where exactly is the fragrance garden in Ferndale? How do ypu get there from Birch Bay, or when you get off the Ferndale Main Exit. ?

Hello!
I am thinking about having a wedding around the main picnic shelter area with my reception under the shelter. Please let me know if you know about the following:
-Are there electrical outlets by the shelter?
-Is there automatic lighting that turns on once its dark out? If so, is it possible to turn this lighting off temporarily?
-Are small candles on the picnic tables allowed to be used within the confines of the shelter?
I will of course be re-checking these details again if I reserve the place, but would appreciate it if anyone knows!
