TA should update their web site as this general store was closed and shuttered when we stopped by recently. Looks like it has been closed for some time!

The store clerk was super friendly and helpful. She recommended something for a cold I developed. Would definitely visit again.

The Taftsville Country Store is crammed full with all souvenir and Vermont staple items. We shopped for candy, maple syrup and chocolates.

The store offers the basics plus wine, cheese and local products. Try the apple salsa...yum!! Service was good and the location convenient. The store closes at 6PM as does much of the area so plan accordingly

We stopped in here one afternoon to pick up a bottle of wine and some cheese. For a small store they had a good selection of wine, cheese and snacks. They also had a selection of local made items for gifts and souvenirs

We stopped here on our way back from Quechee, as we saw an advertisement stating they were the Napa Valley of Vermont cheese. They have a handful of cheeses, most you can get at any grocery store in Vermont. They are an average general store, with some Vermont products, but not as many as most other general stores.

There are lots of "country stores" in Vermont that are little more than tourist trinket outlets. Taftsville Country Store is not a trap -- it's the real deal, in operation since 1850 or so, with authentic local goods (cheese, syrup, smoked meats, chocolates, etc.) plus an incredible meat/fish/wine selection ... and it's so reasonably priced! It's also a local community anchor, by virtue of its location (across from the covered bridge) and the presence of a small post office and bulletin board in the back.
The proprietors know their stuff -- ask them about the best wine to pair with a certain dish, or the most authentic Vermont ice cream (hint: it's not B&J) and they can point you in the right direction. To give you an example, they have a selection of Grüners that would be impressive in any Boston or NYC wine shop, and they will happily point newcomers to a "starter" variety that pairs well with fish.
In an commercial era that is dominated by Walmarts and Amazons, it's so refreshing to see a real small business that serves the local community and visitors so well with exceptional local products and friendly service. I will definitely be coming back with my family.
