We really enjoyed our visit here. We toured each level of the museum and stopped for a soft drink in the museum cafe. The cafe prices were very reasonable. Our favorite floor was the 4th flour with the Heinz 57 displays and the Mister Rodgers items. But the whole museum was well done and interesting.

Nice museum for kids and adults. Lots of things to see. Make sure to get a card stamped on each floor to get a little souvenir. Though It's not a big dill.....:D

The history of Ketchup was informative and fun. The museum reflects the ethnic diversity of the area. We spent 3 hours here and saw most of the museum. Parking was close and easy on a Friday. Wheelchairs were available but most were in disrepair, so make sure you bring your own wheelchair for those with mobility issues.

We could have spent all day here looking through the many floors of the museum. I really liked the ethnic item on display from the many Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

The Fort Pitt Museum at the Point is part of History Center, so we visited Fort Pitt in morning, and then the Heinz Center in afternoon, and got a 50% discount with our Fort Pitt receipt.

This wasn't on our "to do" list but I'm sure glad we went. Six floors of a mixed bag of history of the Hienz company, the Pittsburgh sports teams and so much more. Each floor has a theme so you can plan on spending as much time as you want on each floor.
My wife and I spent 3 hours here and loved it. You can come back the next day for free or visit another attraction on the same ticket(following day only). Pay parking lots very close . I liked the fact that you could go at your own pace and weren't rushed or on a structured tour or path.
Nice coat room with lockers available too . I noticed several hands on attractions for children although there were not many kids there on the day of our visit. I'd have to say this is a "must do" while in Pittsburgh, especially if like me, this is your first time here!

Give yourself plenty of time - at least a half day! There is so much to see. We're not sports people and decided to just "walk quickly through" the sports section, but actually stopped quite a few times to read as things caught our eye (steamboat racing, anyone?). The rest museum was so interesting - we really would have needed an entire day to read everything (at least). Good history about the country, the region, and Pittsburgh. Highly recommend.

We chose the following exhibits that interested us as we did not have all day
The place talks about Ketchup and the company.
Since I’ve been a faithful Heinz Ketchup user my entire life I was very curious about the name and the company’s 150 old history.
Here you learn more than just ketchup, but also of some of their other 5000 products. (Did you know ketchup moves at .028 mph, slower than a snail?)
On display are old commercials of ketchup, Morris the Cat, and Charley the Tuna. There is a recipe book from 1869, and walls of displays and artifacts showing how the company grew from a farm stand. An unusual old artifact is the pickle pouch the salesman would carry.
We liked seeing the Mr. Rogers exhibit. Did not know the baseball stadium, Ferris wheel, gas station and the polio vaccine came from Pittsburgh

If I remember correctly it was $10 to park. You could call the Heinz History Center to confirm. 412-454-6000. Have a great time! Do the pickle pin challenge!

I would like to know if the boat that Henry J Heinz sank in the Allegheny river with all of the supplies that his competitors could not purchase or get their hands on is still there or if it was later raised?

I can’t say I’ve heard of this boat, and didn’t see anything at the history center about it. There is so much to see there, it is worth the visit. Maybe one of the docents or staff would know more.

how many hours would you say would be best for this museum?

If you don't have a special affiliation to Pittsburgh, two hours might be enough. I spent two hours but would have spent more time if I had it. As others advised, it will depend on your level of interest.
