A truly beautiful lake. Great for boating, swimming, fishing and kayaking. Peaceful. The area is surrounded by mountains and forests and the water is easy access. The beach near Sam Owens state park has a sand volleyball court and kayak rental. Public restroom facilities have flush toilets, and running water.

Took the Lake Pend Orielle Eagle Watching dinner cruise from Sandpoint. What a pleasure. A smaller boat with limited passenger, which was just fine. A great dinner, served by the most pleasnt and attentive staff. Highly recommended if you have the time.

Beautiful lake. went kayaking and just enjoyed the day at the lake. We were visiting people there and had a wonderful time with a motor boat ride as well.

This is one of the great American lakes- expansive with mountains and coves and different marinas where you can tie up. The Floating Restaurant and Sandpoint itself are must dos.

I had the pleasure of exploring this lake during a visit to the area. I had been to Northern Idaho many times and always wanted to see the lake. I have been close many times but always pressed for time. This time around I devoted a whole day to explore the lake. I started off in Bayview and checked out as much of the lake as the trails would allow. It was raining off and on that morning so many of the trails near Bayview were muddy and slippery. I didn't want to waste time so I headed up to Sandpoint and stopped at many of the lookouts off the highway around the lake.
There are many vantage points for viewing and boat launches as there are several homes, cottages, Inns and campgrounds around the lake. If you are a hiker there are several well-maintained trails around the lake and local outfitters and tour guides can take you many places around the lake. This scenery and views around this lake are priceless. You could spend a few hours or a few days taking in its splendour. This is a must-see destination in Northern Idaho and I can't wait to get back.

The view is majestic as you view the Rocky Mountains. The water is crystal clear. I decided to take a not so known trail that goes for 3 miles on the shore side of the lake. Beautiful trees, majestic view, and breath taking experience. I walked my dog and my Border Collie kept stopping to look at the view. There are benches along the trail, I recommend you bring a camera. Take your time and enjoy.

Much better than Cour d Alene for viewing a almost pristine lake and getting to the shore. Easier access and a lot of free parking available.

This is a lovely lake with a variety of available water sports and fun destinations along its shores. You can boat in to excellent restaurants or hiking trails. You can swim at islands or rocky beaches along the shores. We frequently see Eagles, ospreys, ducks, geese, loons, swans, gulls and grebes. Occasionally we see otters and beavers. Even on holidays it’s not very crowded with boats.

We took our young adult son to lunch at Trinity at City Beach and sat outside. Lovely day. Beautiful scenery.

Best kept a secret so it stays so beautiful and uncrowded. Clean, clear water. Spectacular all year round, but our favorite time is July - September when the water is warm for swimming. Great fishing almost always.

Hi there! I'm planning a road trip for the summer. How long would you say we need to really get a good taste of the lake? We'll be stopping here on our way to Seattle from Glacier National Park.

There are Five main aspects of Sandpoint.
1) The Lake and Beach
2) The Trails and Mountains
3) The Fine restaurants.
4) The Shops
5) The festivals during the summer.
Each with their own characteristics and enjoyments. Hope this might help
