Where do I begin. Everyone needs to go and be in the presence of a volcano in your life, Mt Yasur is just incredible and the people are so proud and respectful of this powerful and beautiful volcano.

We did a grand tour which encompassed Port Resolution, John Frum Village, Hot springs, Shark Bay and the Highlight- Mt Yasur! A must if travelling to Tanna even a must if in Vanuatu! A once in a lifetime experience because photos and videos don't do it justice!!

We did the volcano safari from White Grass Resort where we are in-house guests. It was superb. The tour is strictly the volcano at present due to the island not being fully functional (at time of writing borders have been open for two months). It was an exotic 4WD across gullys, up and down mountains and in deep tracks across the island. Once you get to the ash plains it is like being on the moon. After you meet the guides and get the orientation it is back in the vehicles to the trek starting point. It is a steep climb but fairly easy to the caldera. After that you get the opportunity if you feel comfortable to go higher.
On our day the volcano activity was a Level 2 which meant we could go up. We climbed about 1 and a half hours before sunset. Once the sun has gone down you can see the glow. The volcano was quite active at level 2. Steady rumbling and explosions with ash clouds, Vapour and sparks. We were lucky because the wind direction was blowing away from the viewpoints. We have climbed 2 extinct and 2 active volcanoes in the past and this one was the best yet. Volcanoes are always amazing but this tour is absolutely Spectacular.

La montée en 4/4 ( in-dis-pen-sable !) avec un conducteur chevronné est déjà épique ! Etre au bord d'un cratère actif lançant de la lave, projetant des nuages de fumée et des grondements sourds et puissants c'est divin ! Extraordinaire !

No one was there.
We called, emailed, etc.
The place was rundown due to not being used because of covid.
They have not refunded our money.
Expedia has not refunded our money.
Incredibly disappointed in Expedia's handling of this situation.
Don't book here.
Views were amazing though from the location but the road there was insane.
4 wheel drive needed and going through washed out roads and dried rivers.

This was a great adventure although their safety standards are not as stringent as ours in Australia so you need to be very careful and, although children were there, not sure I'd be keen to take kids up there. It's a bit of a hike but no one rushes you. Once the sun goes down - WOW!

Can you visit the volcano in a day trip?
RussJenn
Wollongong, أستراليا349 مساهمة
Yes! You can visit anytime.
But it is a grey on grey landscape in daylight. On dusk it becomes spectacular. The red glow from the lava pool lights up the crater. The lumps of molten lava flying into the sky are bright red and well worth a couple of hours of your time.
Also there is spectacular snorkelling over coral, the magnificent blue cave, and the turtles!
Hello, can you recommend an agency to trek to Bembow, Marum and Yasur?

hello, sorry but I can't answer to your request. I have used a new caledodonian travel agency in Nouméa (Tropic Travels) for planning my trip to Vanuatu.
But you will find in Port Vila a few range of vanuatan travel agencies too.

Hi, could you see the lava lake? I read one review saying you can't see it except from a plane. Thanks for your help :)

We were able to on our trip, great photos and videos. They decided to allow us around to the viewing point despite the wind being much stronger there than the other points. Awesome to see but it depends on the day due to wind. Be prepared to get sand blasted so to speak but take some safety glasses to keep ash and grit out of your eyes.

What is the name of the company that manages access to the volcano and sell the 9750 tickets?

They’re not really a company, it’s a tribe and they don’t have a contact number or website. it sort of works by most accommodations just know how to get you there. You basically roll up and pay cash to go on the tour. not really a booking system in a formal sense. it’s Vanuatu, Islander life way

Overnight tour with Air Taxi 66000vatu/approx $700 Aust. We walked up volcano to rim on tour in Sept.
We are in Tanna for a day to see the volcano. Are there any one day packages available for Mt Yasur? Which are the best and reasonably priced tours available?

Strongly suggest don’t do 1 day
You want darkness - or I wouldn’t go
My review
All In one post:
Tanna - take cash before you go. Pre book your transfer 5000 local ($62 aud) each. Took hour to accom
We stayed yasir view lodge which you can book via (no website) / it also has a treehouse in the same grounds which you book through air bnb amazingly, when we visited (nov 2018) 1 treehouse available - another one 2 storey was getting RE built after cyclone.
Strongly and highly suggest staying here as it’s opposote the volcano entrance.
Other reviews say take googles, cloths we found no need was clean as and not smelly we also had the wind blowing one way. Was windy at top so take a jumper and long pants (seems strange but yes)
Our host Thomas highly suggested do sunrise tour as less crowded so at 430pm
We walked over to the volcano entrance to see a local dance as they don’t do that in morning. Then in morning we departed. A person that did it the previous evening said the morning viewing you get a lot more darkness compared to morning which is key - it seems as of 2016 you can only do it on tour so 03:30, 11am (don’t know why you would), and 4pm.
Sounds like years ago you could go anytime but not anymore - it’s now around 10000 local , 2nd visit 6000, 3rd visit 500
Accom:
Amazing and brilliant, gardens and grounds well kept, basic facilities but for whats is available is 5/5, u have power when you need it eg 7pm to say 930pm charge your essentials - take an Aussie powerboard with you to make it easier
Strong inspect repellent for tanna including deet recommended.
Personally I think this is the only place to stay - as if you get weather you can easily go again. Mornings seem calmer weather, less crowded. As all other hotels you have to travel hour plus to get here.
Arrived midday > accom >
We also went to port resolut bay stunning coastline in afternoon > am volcano >
And humoursous cannonball fun engaging tour (right next to accom) > blue lagoon cave your > fly out afternoon
Only place to stay, was amazing, local food, great hospitality, very caring
FYI the transfers are expensive because of the damage to vehicles while there x 1 flat tyre - happened earlier week too. So I think it’s reasonable / also all the ash = corrosive. So stay at base the reason why ur there - one lady who we met at volcano was staying easter part island and she was doing 3 visits that’s 3 transfers - 6 hours in a car !!!! - not over smooth roads !!!
Thanks

My husband and I climb the Yasur Volcano in 1983. Accommodation was very basic and we were driven up to the base by a truck and given lunch sitting on a rug. I had rained the night before and when we walked up you could see our footprints. I class this adventure as one of my wonderful holidays. I would love to go again but as I am now 85, I think it would be too much for me, but I have some great memories. I know this is not a question, but it would be nice if you said Hello. Ruth

Accomodation still basic but Whitegrasses was the nicest on the island and I am almost 50 and I struggled but I had people much older than me passing me by, it is hard work but worth every second and the first ascend has a rail all the way up and a seat at this stage but the next section is harder but you just take your time and go slowly and it is worth it and they guides are amazing

Could you please tell me the fitness level needed to experience Mt Yasur. Travelling with family who are adults and could manage but I struggle with up hill walking.
What distance and degree of difficulty for a 60 yo unfit and chubby traveller?
Approx how lone is the uphill

We just returned from Mt Yasur, while the climb is steep just take your time & stop to catch your breath when needed, that's what I did. I go to the gym 2 times a week & I still couldn't make it without stopping. Several people had to sit down to recover, no shame in doing so. We are on the wrong side of sixty.😊 The overnight tour is better as your there after dark when the glow is more visible. We stayed at Rockwater Resort it's only recently opened, & a welcome oasis after a long day. Don't let the drive on the roads put you off, I suffer lower backpain & never had a problem. They drive slowly so you don't get tossed around. Remember this is not Australia they don't have the resources to maintain the roads. Enjoy.
