‪We were on a tour with a guide which is needed for many sites on Easter Island. The 15 Moai are fabulous and the history amazing.‬

‪Impressive place.‬

‪While in Rapa Nui my wife and I rented a car. We then hire an official tourist guide who came in our car. She was only with us for a full day, took us to several places, including Ahu Tongariki (you can NOT visit it without having obtained a previous permit and need to enter with an official tourist guide). Our guide, Ms. Lopez, was very knowledgeable and nice, took us to the best places to get excellent photos. Ahu Tongariki is an impressive place, worth a visit.‬

‪The most moai on one ahu‬

‪With 15 moai this is the longest ahu/platform on the island and one used a lot in promotional images so was a real thrill to be standing next to them.
Our guide was also able to give us the story behind them and how a very skilled Japanese crane operator managed to balance a hat back onto one of the heads.
You can really see the different characters when so many together. Some short, some tall, some thin, some chunky, some serious and one just plain grumpy looking.‬

‪Stunning, the largest moais restoration on the island‬

‪There is not much to say, it is quite an experience to visit this place. You can see above the platform 15 moais, restored after a tsunami flipped them. It's the most I've ever seen together, and it's impressive.
You have to go with guide and entrance to the park to access (like all sites of some historical interest).
There are some things closer (platforms, pieces of moais) and it merits staying a while watching.‬

‪Very impressive with 15 Moai statues. It is the largest ahu on Easter island. In 1960 a huge earthquake caused a Tsunami resulting in some damage. They have since been restored and I enjoyed walking around and admiring them.‬

One of the moaies wears a red volcanic stone ornament, a symbol of nobleness or power
This is also the best spot to enjoy sunrise and sunrise
The history of this place is a blend of mythical stories, clans’ wars and tribal settlements, dating back to the 10th century.‬

‪This site is a massive ahu (platform) featuring 15 huge similar moai. It was destroyed by a 1960 tsunami but subsequently restored in the 1980/90s. It is visually stunning, whether from a distance as you enter the sloping site, or whether close up. You can walk all the way around the platform. The setting itself is visually stunning - a rocky, wave-swept bay. A must-see.‬

‪For sure this is the highlight of Rapa Nui. 15 amazing moai stand to admire the island. What you see today is a recovery after the 1960's tsunami. The statues -each- have 30.000 kg and thanks to the Government of Japan turist can admire in splendor‬
