The bread here is baked fresh and the pizza and beer is a steal√ when I walk by I got a whiff of the yeast rising and it wets my appetite every time✓

Although we enjoyed the ice coffee the food was pathetic. I ordered an open omelette and I think the picture speaks for itself- I could’ve done this better at home. Chocolate almond croissant was average and you can find better at Blue Butterfly cafe. Also The service was slow. The ambiance is very nice, good furniture and open space with great light.

I have eaten there numerous times, and only once felt unhappy. That was because of the other company at the table and nothing that the restaurant did wrong. I do not need a Jumbo supersized extra large portion, as long as the food is good, as it has always been at Schoon de Companje. It is freshly baked bread, fresh ingredients, good coffee(I only ever have coffee there), and the service has always been good, even on busy days. I have never left there feeling like the portion was too small.
I would definitely recommend you go there for a breakfast, brunch or lunch.
(The other "gentleman" at the table is used to eating 'all you can eat buffet' style of food. More deep fried, more chips, extra large jumbo sized portions that only he can finish.)

Stopping for an early Sunday breakfast and what an excellent choice. Snug, comfortable and wonderful. The freshly squeezed juiced and the unique variety on the menu made my day. I'll be back for more. Your friendly baker just around the corner.

My wife wanted a light lunch and we decided to visit Oude Bank and found that it had closed and it had new owners in Boschendal and a name change. My wife had Trout Salad which was perfect and we had some of the locally brewed beer, which was also great. The only thing that put me off was that they had nothing of their nice bread left for me to buy and i am a bread lover. The service were good and the place not too stuffy with this heat problem we have in the Western Cape.

Wanted to order 2 hot chocolates, then the waiter told us the menu price of R18 was incorrect, the price is R25! Not sure if he thought we were tourists! Then proceeded to tell us that for R95 we could have 2 slices of bread with butter and jam.... OR better value was the cheese board which was the above with a little bowl of cheese. SO either the waiter can't sell the meal or outs an actual rip off, we wouldn't know as we were amazed by the blatant "put the prices up for tourists" and left.

Beautiful spot in the center of Stellenbosch. Warm atmosphere with friendly service. Coffee and small meals are recommended. Wat did leave a bad taste was the bill....R45 for a Ice Tea???

We came here for a mother's day breakfast and everything was amazing! We had a super waitress who was fast and friendly and the food was delicious. Will definitely be going back!

Cute spot with a rustic feel. Had lunch here with a local friend. Tried one of their sandwiches and a wine flight. Great combo. Was told to try some of their desserts, but they were sold out by the time we ordered. Would go again.

Fails on many levels.
1. Communication between service staff is problematic and disruptive. While one waiter is setting up your table a second clears it without any food having appeared.
2.Communication between kitchen and front of house is problematic. My order was send to a wrong table and a simple bread platter took 45min to materialize.
3 Waiting staff is disrespectful and needs a serious attitude adjustment. When questioned their first instinct is to mislead. Also has no problem with interrupting guests mid sentence. Brought my bill I finished ordering . Engaged in visible passive aggressive behavior when not happy with the tip.
4 sometime less is more. One gets the feeling that there is not enough staff for the amount of tables. There also does not seem to be a system to manage who is responsible for what.
5 I sat outside next to entrance being flanked by a wall with a wall feature on the one side. This feature was filthy covered in sand dirt , spider webs and dead insects of all sort in said webs.
6. Food is tasty and at a suitable Level of quality. Looks like all management effort goes into the kitchen. Rest of establishment sees staff lurching around in the dark.
