Attended a function at this venue. Was concerned given the unsafe area which sadly has deteriorated over the years. Relieved that the parking area was well lit.
Outside there was a very unpleasant and overwhelming stench of the rubbish dump nearby. Fortunately it had not filtered inside the venue.
The hall we were in was spacious enough to cater for 250+ people, though the finishes and carpeting looked dated and worn.
We had a buffet dinner:
STARTERS included an assortment of cold meats, deep fried hake fillets, cocktail bread rolls, Greek salad, potato salad, carrot and pineapple salad and coleslaw.
MAINS: prime beef, chicken curry, grilled hake fillet, vegetable lasagne, roast potatoes, braised rice and seasonal vegetables
DESSERTS: Fruit salad, ice cream, apple pie, chocolate mousse, bread and butter pudding with custard
The food overall looked unappetizing and was average in taste. The beef was tough and sauce was bland; roast potatoes was dry; butternut was cooked and flavoured well; the apple pie was okay, the custard did not look appetising at all - lacking the creamy milky consistency.
The buffet and dessert stations ran out of serving plates which resulted in unnecessary delays and queues. Guests had to ask for them. There was no visible staff ensuring everything was replenished.
Overall it was a substandard experience.

We went in a group to the races for the day. It was fun but there is very little security and the place is in need of an upgrade. The surrounding area is dodgy so be very aware when driving there. We had lunch at the furious room and the food was mediocre but reasonably priced.

Old Jhb but a lovely venue for evening parties, weddings etc. The view over the CBD is one of the best you will get

We attended on a rather busy Saturday and were quite dissappointed that they could not cater to the crowd and that drinks were not easy to come by on a scorcher of a day

Spacious boardrooms. Nice environment and if you love horse racing, visit on a race day. Catering from Isizwe Hospitality is on point.

Fairly useless as a conference venue (Nov 2016). Advertises wifi, but won't give you the wifi password because "we don't like people using the wifi". Fantastic. A business venue without business facilities. Don't come here for a business function if you need internet connectivity.

I have nothing against gambling. Have I placed bets on horses - yes.
The location of the race track is on the bad side of town and definitely do not feel safe travelling to and from the track. Once inside you are ok if you walk together, two or more.
If you go to one on the rooms, you may enjoy the experience. Punting as a member of the public you rub shoulders with the salt of the earth trying to make a bit of a buck. The venue is not well attended by people due to DSTV and public broadcasts.
Buying food is a gamble on its own. Freshness appears to be lacking and hygiene is another question.
Gambling is not for under 18 year sold so why take small kids along. I have seen small children sitting around the whole day, while the parent stand in queues.

we went with my daughter just for the fun of it. We loved it. it was excellent and the food great and kids could enjoy. Love it love it

My friends and I would like to attend the Sansui Summer Cup Race day.
In the old days there was a betting area and pub on the floor above the main grand stand.
Is this the R275 per ticket area?
Can you buy meals there and are the prices reasonable?
What is the dress code?
I cannot find information concerning what you get and location for the different ticket prices.
