We only found this by chance, having seen people standing on a bridge overlooking the Hong Kong Police Museum.
Managed to get on and realised it gives you a simple way of getting up and down the central area.

Bit of a weird tourist attraction this one.
They are essentially a set of public escalators located in Lan Kwai Fong/Soho that allow commuters to go up Hong Kong’s steep slopes without having to exert themselves. They start at Queens road central and terminate (*somewhat conveniently) at Tai Kwun (one of Hong Kong main tourist attractions).
Being public escalators they are free to use.
Despite being outdoors they are covered so can be used regardless of the weather.
The escalators run downwards in the morning and upwards in the evening.
The escalators are featured in Chris Nowlans ‘A Dark knight’ movie (Morgan freeman and Christian Bale can be seen having a conversation near the top of them).

Possibly the longest escalator in Hong Kong, easily connecting so many nice places, for locals and tourists in the Central. Also easy to get in and alight. Took about 8 minutes to complete the ride with the final destination is Tai Kwun. Please be mindful that it is a one-way ride, only going up.

This is an ideal way to get from low level to top level however I was personally disappointed as was actually just a few small escalators and not one longest one...
Appreciate why and that you can get off at different levels to visit shops etc......

Escalator of more than 600m that allows you to quickly discover the neighborhood in a few minutes and effortlessly then go to discover it on foot

This is a life saver for those who want to reach mid level streets from Central. Note that the escalators go uphill from 10 am to midnight only. Avoid the time period from 6 am to 10 am as the escalators go downhill for the benefit of the commuters.

I have been to Hong Kong a few times but never done this. So cool. Highly recommend. Great way to see the Central area and then some of the residential areas. Took me maybe fifteen to twenty minutes with a few stops to take photographs. I really enjoyed it. A few tips. If you go right to the end, you will end at Conduit Road. It does not end at the Peak Tram. This is around a twenty minute walk from there. My plan was to then get a MTR from the end at Conduit Road but there wasn't one near there, so I needed to walk back down to Central. This was fine but be mindful if you have children or can't walk, it takes around twenty minutes to walk or slightly less but you are going downhill and there are stairs. Some of the paving is uneven too. You cannot take the escalator back. I would highly recommend going to the end. Unique!

on our city break, we hear about this escalator (the longest in the world) and took a longer walk to get there.
conclusion, o.k. but no must, is also quite crowded with visitors.

This is a great way to rest your legs while exploring Central but also see the views. The escalators are broken up into small ones so you can easily get off at any street. Lots of eateries along the way.

When I lived in Hong Kong, I didn't use it much. But these days when I visit Hong Kong, I stay at a hotel in Central and use it all the time because it is convenient way to travel - especially in hot and humid weather in July in Hong Kong.

We are staying at Upper House. Is this near the Escalator. I hear you can get to good bars and restaurants as well as some quirky shopping streets. Can somebody give me some tips on where to go.

From where your staying in Admiralty you can walk from your accommodation down to the main drag where the trams run get on a tram going left towards central and get off at the Hang Seng bank HQ here, look up and you will see two tubular enclosed walkway bridges, take any of the stairs upto them and if you follow the crowd that is heading towards the hillside you will find yourself on the start of the many escalators (they only go one way, which during the day, is uphill) you can get off at numerous cross streets to look around, you will find a suitable route down again or jump on a bus at conduit street (bus 3 I think) back down to central via admiralty.

Hi - I'm going stay at Robinson Road, almost at the end of the escalator while going up. Is it safe taking escalator in late night? Thanks!
كُتب بتاريخ 22 يوليو 2016
Hi there
It is as safe as it can get
With this crazy world at present everything can go wrong
But Hong Kong in general is very safe
They have very strict laws and a very low crime rate
Please keep in mind the escalators are going
Downhill from 6 am till 10 am
Uphill from 10 am till midnight
Have a great holiday in Hong Kong
😀

How did you find the entrance to the escalators at the bottom. I believe its hard to find.
كُتب بتاريخ 12 يناير 2016
There are tourist direction sign at almost every crossroad in Hongkong.
Exit D2 of "Central" and then turn right, turn left (in front of Swatch store), turn right and go straight for about 500 m.

So this escalator leads up to mid level. What can we find at the end of the escalator? Any famous attractions or landmarks? Because I dont think im gonna walk down the stairs..

There are 2 places I think are worth visiting. First is Dr Sun Yat Sen's Museum. The other is the Chinese Museum of Medical Science, which is supposed to have a great collection of traditional Chinese remedies and paraphernalia and their uses. During my 3 days in Hong Kong, it was impossible for me to coordinate opening days so I could see both, so I chose Dr Sun Yat Sen's, which BTW has an interesting link to the Mormons. Trip Advisor won't let me paste website links, but you can easily google both places. There is also good public transportation to/from and nearby both, altho cuz of the steep grade necessarily go in a roundabout way. Both places are within a couple blocks of each other, so you can easily walk from one to the other, providing you have a good map and don't get lost.

No attractions at the top but on the way down there are many shops and places to eat

Is this just an escalator or is there a walking route (steps) next to it? For example can you ride up then walk back down?
كُتب بتاريخ 9 سبتمبر 2015
The walkway is all the way
It is a main pedestrian route to the city, with the escalators bringing assistance, you can do the whole route next to the escalators
