There are records that you are indeed visiting the house of Ananias who features in the conversion of Saul who later became St Paul. . Ananias later went in to be Bishop of Damascus. But here is a location linking straight to the New Testament just off Straight Street - which also gets mentioned. I don’t have a deep belief but it was interesting to see.

In the Bible, the book of Acts, the story is told of a faithful Christian, Ananias, who while praying, heard from the Lord Jesus and was told to go down to the street called Straight and lay hands on a blind man, Saul of Tarsus, known for violently persecuting Christians or members of the Way as they were first known. Ananias balked but obeyed and the result of the obedience was launching St Paul the Apostle into his destiny. This chapel is where Ananias lived - he became the Bishop of Damascus (a public figure) so records were kept of his house. It is just off the Street called Straight. The chapel is serene and has beautiful paintings of the conversion of St Paul and one can sit and soak in the quiet spirit there. There is a small on site shop which sells books, postcards and maps. This is a site of great importance and Christian heritage. Well worth the visit.

Walking down Straight Street you are walking where blind Paul was led into the city of Damascus and led to Ananias' house where he regained his sight.
The chapel is apparently where Ananias' house once stood and my host told me this house was once the house of a rabbi so there is a strong inference that it is genuine.
Now a small underground chapel with visuals telling the story of Paul's regaining sight and his flight from Damascus over the wall it was great to visit and highly recommended.

It is a small place in the Old Town, close to Gate of St Thomas, in a little street baring the same name. I used to live close to it, so I have some sentiment for it, but in reality, it's not a very memorable place.

Nel mio tour in Siria ho visitato anche questo monumento come St Ananias Chapel.
Ricordo bene che il l'autobus ci aveva scaricato lungo una via intasata dal traffico di Damasco, vicino alla cinta muraria della città.
Poi la guida ci fece inoltrare per un vicolo e alla fine del vicolo abbiamo visitato questo monumento. Si tratta di una cappella dove secondo la tradizione San Paolo trovo rifugio a Damasco dopo la fuga da Gerusalemme. Bella cappella. La sorpresa però è un'altra: lungo il vicolo ci sono molti negozi di antiquariato. A chi piace frugare è una vera chicca! Andateci.

Εκεί που ήταν το σπίτι του Ανανία όπου θεράπευσε τον Σαούλ ή Παύλο όταν ο δεύτερος πήγαινε να πιάσει τους χριστιανούς. Νιώθω τυχερός που μπόρεσα και το είδα πριν ξεκινήσει αυτός ο τρελός πόλεμος

One the most cosy and historical streets you might visit in Damascus, try out the restaurants and visit the Hanania chapel! You would be amazed!

The ancient church in the heart of Old Damas close to the great Bab Sharqi, where you feel chilliness once you step down the stairs of the old chapel under the ground, a very small place yet very charming for me.
every time i go there i feel the serenity and the peace, i hope that God protects it and keeps it safe forever.
