What a disappointing experience.
Horse riding in the Zambesi Park sounds beautiful but doing it with Alison's business is something completely different.
You'll have the pleasure to meet the owner during the bad quality coffee moment offered at the arrival and she won't hesitate to ask you (in a very condescendant way) for the money before even welcoming you.
If you are experienced or not, it's all the same, levels are mixed, so imagine how boring it can be for an experienced rider...
Don't expect to learn anything about wild life and animals, you won't see them or very shortly from distance (in 2.5hrs we could guess giraffes, elephants, warthog and ampala)
All the "club" is in very bad condition, client side same as horses side, it's dirty and no maintenance done for years, it's a massive ruin.
With this money I was expecting the horses to be well treated and not getting a diluted orange juice at the end of the ride pretending they care about the clients. What a sad moment, seing how Zimbabwean are trying their best to protect animals...
It is way too expensive for this poor service (115$) , at this price you'll better enjoy the helicopter flight and you won't feel guilty riding these heartbreaking malnourished horses.
If you want to experience what a perfect scam is, go ahead. It looks like they make fun of you and unfortunately same for their horses...

Great rides, awesome guides, impressive scenery and wonderful horses! Alison was very punctual and she and her guides took great care of us! Even sun lotion, plenty of water, fruits and buscuits and rain coats have been provided.

Alison and her team are incredible! Super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Their horses are school musters who are super experienced and calm.
We also had a game drive and an amazing dinner in the evening that was also organized by Alison. Highly recommend it!

As a couple from Germany we took our time in advance to search the internet for the best Horseback-Safari we can get in Africa or South Africa - not knowing much about Simbabwe we looked out for several countries and possibilities. While our search we found out that Alison Baker in Simbabwe / Victoria Falls might offer the best experience, after reading her reviews and those of others. That does not mean that the others had only bad reviews - but what other guests wrote already experiencing Alison and her horses made us to choose her for our 8-days-vacation to Simbabwe/Victoria Falls. And guess what: The already fantastic reviews were NOTHING comparing to that what we really experienced at our days with Alison - THAT WAS A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE, made us SPEECHLESS every single moment and day, it went beyond all best wishes we could have ever imagined!
Alison LOVES and LIVES what she is doing. She LOVES and LIVES her horses, the nature, the game and the wildlife and of course her clients. We felt NOT ONE SECOND like we might be in a "money-making-tourist-attraction".
Alison has STUNNING horses suited to your own riding level, she has a great team, she knows the reserves and every single animal and plant in every way - we learned more in 8 days than in 13 years in school...!
If you love riding & horses, if you love all animals and wildlife and if you love the nature - and if you want to PROTECT the wildlife and the nature with more knowledge & respect, if you want to learn more about Anti-Poaching and Conservation etc. you cannot find any better adress than to be with Alison and her team! Besides that you will explore a country full of overwhelming kindness, beautyness, virginity and the best sunsets and sundowners you have ever seen.
Give your complete vacation-organization in Alisons hands (also BEST Hotels etc.!!!) and you will have the BEST holidays EVER! Everything, really everything was PERFECT organized, Alison is incomparable, she does everything to let yourself feel fantastic in every way! We absolutely recommend as much riding-days as possible (for sure you will have a great experience as well if you can book only a one-day-tour) - and it is 1000% worth to fly to Simbabwe/Victoria Falls "ONLY" because of Alison and her horseback-safari! You won´t miss ANYTHING and you will have the BEST HOLIDAYS ever! Alison is not "one of the best" - she IS the BEST!
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS ALISON!!!!!!! Sina & Emrah

I've done a 5 night/6 day horse riding safari with Alison and had the most exciting holiday riding experience. After my original plan to go to Botswana fell through (booked via a different horse riding safari company) I was looking for a last-minute alternative when Alison has been recommended to me - she was super prompt, easy to communicate with and sorted out the plan for me within hours. Two days later I was flying to Zimbabwe. The whole trip was organised very well, everything went smoothly and I had a completely stress- and hassle-free experience during my stay in Zimbabwe (this applies to it all - accomodation, transport, horse riding and other activities).
Alison is a wonderful guide. Professional, highly experienced and skilled, and her knowledge of wildlife as well as the game reserve itself is incredible. I was very impressed by her understanding of animal behaviour, from approaching them to somehow being able to tell exactly how they would act. She's also fun to ride with and an interesting person (fyi her riding experience goes well beyond safaris). She goes the extra mile and really puts in effort to make it a unique experience for us. Being an experienced rider and having my own horses, it was also clear to me she is top in her field. The assistant guides are experienced and work well with Alison, while the horses are all lovely and well looked after (this was a big factor for me too).
The rides combined fast pace/galloping in open areas, and walking or trotting in bushes. It was all very exciting as animals could be hiding practically anywhere and I ended up being on a constant lookout for wildlife. You see things from a completely different angle compared to a regular driving safari - basically becoming part of the environment where horses are viewed more like wildlife itself which then gives you an opportunity to observe a wider range of animal behaviour (yes, including mock charges by elephants, rhinos and buffalos! Luckily Alison knows exactly what to do in those situations so it's safe). I've seen such a wide range of animals (consistently) that I could not have asked for a better safari.
I'm really glad I booked this trip with Alison and would highly recommend it. Athough I'd suggest riding more than one day as there is a huge variety of things you can see and it isn't really something you get bored of, exploring the reserve is so much fun and you can get a lot out of it. I did other activities in the area but enjoyed this the most, definitely worth it.

Alison is absolutely hilarious and I had a great time riding with both she and Reason. We experienced great game sightings and the weather was perfect. I got some incredible photos.
The horses were wonderful, well trained and extremely well cared for. I can't say enough about how Alison and her staff go above and beyond both for their horses and their guests. Alison and her staff really made the trip!
On a side note, the are weight restrictions on riders is for your personal safety as well as the safety of the horses. Please be forthcoming about your abilities and do not be abusive to the staff if they do not think you are riding fit. This is Africa in the wild, not a petting zoo and safety is paramount.
Riding for 5 days with Zambesi Horse Trails was the absolute highlight of my trip to Zimbabwe.

We came to Zimbabwe for horse riding. As occasional riders we took 10 lessons in preparation of having to run away in case the lions are coming, which was good but luckily not necessary. We rode for 5 days through the Livingstone private game reserve. We saw everything and often close by. Giraffes, elephants, a rhino mom with her baby, a rhino young man, lots of impalas, lendts, a never seen before cebu (very pretty and large), zebras, crocodile and even a hyena. Senior was excellent at spotting animals in the distance. With Alisons bravery and determination we rode closer towards the animals. Alison has a gift for reading the mood of the wild animal. "He is a bit agitated today, so we keep some distance." [About the male rhino]. Next day: "he is very chilled, we can ride closer". She went first and us hiding behind her. We came within 20 meters or so. Totally still, the rhino showed some curiosity to check us out but no aggression. What an experience!!! It is absolutely amazing how the animals accept horses (incl the riders on top) as one of them. For the whole duration we stayed at Ursulas homestead, an ex hunting lodge turned private resort with just 4 lodges. Heaven on earth! The giraffe watches you eat breakfast, the elephants come by at night time while we sat by the fire.
Alison is a true character and part of the experience. What a woman! She organised our whole 2 weeks holiday, which included choosing some of the most spectacular hotels (Imbabala, Ursula, the gorges lodge and the Safari club) and booking us into canoeing on the Zambezi river. All went extremely smoothly without any hiccups. She organised it with our best experience in mind. One day she suggested we had dinner somewhere else which she included in the price. The manager there told us it is not included and he can give us 50% discount if we pay. We declined and messaged Alison. In capital letters she replied "leave it with me". Shortly after, the guy came back like a teddy bear saying it was all a misunderstanding and can he get us some wine to make up for it.
Alison, you are truly special! Firm command with a warm heart!
What an amazing experience it was!!!!! We will be back!

We booked the novice ride through another operator, rather than directly. That operator asked about our past riding experience and passed that information on. The morning of the ride, while we were getting ready, the hotel staff called up to our room to say that the driver was twenty minutes early and needed us to come now. When we got down he asked what time we had been told, and apologized - it was obviously not his mistake, and he had been made to come at the wrong time.
When we arrived, we were jumped on by excited dogs (they were being friendly, but if you're not used to dogs this could be jarring) and put with another woman. The owner yelled at us for wearing inappropriate clothing (in the early morning cold, I'd put on a red sweater I was going to take off for the ride) and for bringing bags, saying that my over the shoulder purse and my friend's mini backpack would get caught in the bush. She gave me a fanny pack and told us both to put our money and valuables into it. A few minutes later she yelled at us for filling the fanny pack because it was too heavy, and said we should have only put in what we needed on the ride (and our money - to bribe any lions not to eat us?). She said the guide would carry the fanny pack for us as if we carried it it would get caught and we'd lose it. She forgot to give it to him, I wore it, and it was fine. We took off our sweaters but were still ordered to put on her short-sleeved shirts over our t-shirts (no forearm protection against thorns anyway), and helmets for headbutting our way through branches. Two other women arrived, apologizing for being late, as they'd been told the ride was cancelled so they'd only gotten out of bed ten minutes before when the driver unexpectedly arrived.
When asked our levels of experience, we repeated the information the booking company had sent. I'd ridden once before, and my friend had spent a week at a horse camp. One of the other women had been a regular rider, but hadn't been on a horse for about a year. We were all classified as non-riders. When I told the owner I'd only ridden once she looked absolutely horrified, asked me to repeat myself, and went on a rant. One of the other women in our novice group was a former show jumper. We non-riders were told once how to turn, stop, and go faster, and that was the only instruction. It's an English-style saddle, with no horn, which some of us had never used before.
After having been yelled at and mocked, I was feeling a bit nervous about the ride, which lasted for two and a half hours. I'm admittedly not a horse person, but hadn't had difficulties on my previous novice ride. On this ride, I almost fell off the horse four times, but managed to hang on. Most of these almost-falls were caused by one of the guides, who kept telling me my horse was going too slowly. I'd kick the horse and it wouldn't go any faster. He kept waiting until we were going up a slope and then he'd click his tongue so the horse would go into a trot and almost throw me off - he never did it on flat ground and, after I hung on the first few times, he stopped clicking no matter how slowly my horse decided to go, so I got to suspecting that he'd been trying to see if he could get me to fall off, either to prove a point or because it would have been funny, which isn't surprising considering the owner's own attitude toward her novice guests.
Back at the stables, we weren't given a chance to take a picture of or with our horse, and only one woman who repeatedly requested it got to pet her horse and say goodbye to it. The owner asked how I'd done, and when I joked about managing to stay on the horse the whole time she looked and sounded very surprised. She really shouldn't be advertising novice horse rides if she's going to be rude to inexperienced riders, not give them proper instruction, place genuine novices in the same groups with experienced riders and require the same proficiency from both, then fully expect those novices to tumble off into the thorns at least once.
The ride was supposed to include breakfast. Tea had been set out when we arrived, but I think only the first lady got to drink a proper cup. After the ride, one of the guides pointed out an elephant across the road, which we looked at for about a minute and a half before being told that we were late and needed to leave - right now. I managed to gulp the glass of orange drink they'd poured, but none of us got to touch the plate of tiny biscuits or the one orange each they set out for us (which isn't breakfast anyway), and we ended up not eating a thing all morning on our breakfast included "novice" ride.
It would be helpful if the owner would define what she actually means by novice so people know whether they should be signing up, or even separate people into appropriate groups with appropriate amounts of instruction. At the very least, it would be nice if she didn't yell at her guests and employees, delivered what was promised, and kept better track of time. Out of all the new activities we tried in Victoria Falls, this is the only one that, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't book.

My friend and I joined the 4 hour horse riding trail on the Zambezi. The guides were very good, the horses were all well trained and well cared for. We did not see as much game as I would have imagined. We were able to get the ‘between the horses ears of Victoria Falls’. The last half of the ride along the Zambesi was absolutely beautiful. A great experience.

Hi Susie
Thank you so much for your very kind review - despite the lack of animals on the day you rode. Thank you so much for joining us

What is the shortest ride you offer and its cost? I would probably not be able to do more than an hour or two. There are 4 of us. Thank you.
