‪I won’t comment on the beautiful structure, nor on the amazing social historical and current contributions. Weird that no parishioners have commented so as a first time visitor I will lol:
PARKING: no parking is validated at this time. Of course there is public transportation (the bus looks to be the closest). But as a 30-week pregnant 33 y/o woman… I had to drive lol. Walking in this heat and riding on crowded transportation which could expose me to cold, flu, etc. just weren’t an option. Hopefully this is taken into consideration and the churches near can collectively find an alternative solution (even partially validating parishioner parking would be a kind gesture). $13 for parking, which I would have rather donated to the Service. If you get lucky, there is of course parallel parking around the blocks - I parked at the hotel directly across - use SPOT HERO app (garage entrance is directly across from church entrance).
SERMON: I grew up Methodist Episcopal (U.M.U.C. and A.M.E. - family pastors in multiple churches so I attended both), so I am sermon-focused with long Services. I’ve been attending non-denom for years, but I was looking forward to going back to my roots with this Service. I had an expectation, having attended Lutheran camps growing up but this Service was surprisingly short and more music-focused. This is an unbiased review because those two factors may be exactly what someone is looking for. The sermon itself was very distracting for me personally - the Pastor spoke and every few sentences it was translated by the Asst. Pastor (into Spanish). As a multiracial person I absolutely love the inclusion and all that the church stands for - however, this would be distracting for a Spanish and English speaker. It took away spiritually from me being able to fully immerse and enjoy the Sermon. Again, I value the inclusion. In the past, churches I’ve attended with friends or when I worked overseas would provide either headphones for listening to the translation (kind of like International Summits) or just a congregation member would group us together and manually translate.
LITURGY/MUSIC: Enjoyable. Everyone was so gifted and it was a blessing, the voices and the instrument playing. This is traditional, no Hillsong guys. :)
COMMUNION: I was way overdue for this (moving from VA way out to MD, I haven’t had a home church all COVID - don’t judge haha). I am used to this being held once monthly. This was a very, very efficient and smooth communion - the little cups and options (wine, juice, gluten-free). I absolutely appreciate this.
BILINGUAL: I appreciate their efforts in this. I feel that outside of the Sermon, it was not distracting to incorporate both languages and it was actually cool because I need to try to strengthen my Spanish, and I would love for my baby to also be exposed to this.
Overall - outside of parking and traffic roadblocks lol, this was a nice experience and I will absolutely come visit again. The people seemed very, very genuine and faith-based and that can be hard to find in churches. Thank you for being welcoming!‬

‪Very distinctive - covers an entire block. Red block construction, very distinctive spires. Also statue of Martin Luther. Definitely worth seeing if you enjoy looking at different churches‬

‪The Luther Place Memorial Church is located on Thomas Circle and Vermont Avenue. Visitors to Thomas Circle/14 Street area should add the Luther Place into the agenda. According to the history, this church was built as a memorial to peace and reconciliation after the Civil War and to advocate for African American in general. The building has an elegant look of Gothic architecture and the inside has a warm look of pews and nicely built windows. It is also an historic landmark of Logan Circle historical area and is part of the self-guided tour. Visitors should also visit other historical buildings around Logan Circle to get the feeling of the old rich African American of Washington D.C.‬

‪We went by that church on our way to Embassy Row in DC last week and absolutely loved it. This Church is unique in comparison to other churches in the area with the red stone work all around. Very pretty and worth a few pictures!‬

‪If you are crossing Thomas Circle to 14th street, this church will kept you attention. It has a nice statue of Martin Luther on their grounds just in front of the church's entrance.
It was founded in 1873 as a memorial to peace and reconciliation following the Civil War. Since the beginning it was based on the idea that the community should live together harmoniously. It played an important role in the civil rights. During the 1968 riots, after the murder of Martin Luther King, the church was kept open and sheltered, fed and clothed more than 10,000 people. And from the late 70's to nowadays it helps homeless people through an amazing organization called N Street Village (just across the street).‬
