‪I am giving KC one star because I object to their joining the ranks of the mandatory fee crowd! Like many I'm trying to get out to live events in support of the arts and music. Ticketmaster charges something like 27% for ticket purchases (no cap!) so I try to get to a venue and purchase at the box office. How terrible to find out at the box office that the advertised price for my $200+ Orchestra Seat wasn't as advertised. The Kennedy Center adds a mandatory 10% to the ticket--EVEN BUYING AT THE BOX OFFICE.

So go for the view; looking out over the Potomac is worth a visit, unchanged after all these years. On a beautiful night, as mine was last night, it is quintessential DC. Easily accessible by Metro. Definitely make a visit just expect the mandatory fees.‬

‪We went for a free one-hour tour of the interior. It was well-done and a joy to see inside many of its theatres.

The Center offers frequent free performances as well as those you must pay for.

There is a shuttle bus toad from the nearby foggy Bottom Metro stop, but we walked.‬

‪A short stop on our US History tour was to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We viewed the impressive Hall of States and Hall of Countries, containing the flags of all the states in the country, and flags of other countries. We also saw the giant bust of John F. Kennedy in the large foyer, an impressionist style statue that isn’t really my favorite portrayal of Pres. Kennedy.‬

‪The Kennedy Center is the premiere performing arts venue in DC. It is a stunning facility with multiple theatres catering to different performance types. The terrace offers beautiful views of the Potomac River. Dining options are fine and there are others nearby. The free performances on the Millennium Stage is an amazing opportunity for both the public and the performers.‬

‪The building is beautiful, I like the architecture, its position by the river.
The concert and opera houses are so worn out you wouldn’t believe.. the wallpaper (velvet?) is pealing everywhere. The chandeliers look like they were stolen from a cheap store. At the opera, the sets and the costumes are so cheap, they look worse than in a high school production. Poor ppl, they don’t get any public funding!
The shows are good, great artists are invited. Tonight I saw Rotterdam orchestra.. it was so beautiful. Very sad though to see the difference from the National Orchestra. I haven’t felt so much joy since I was to a concert in my own country.
And the public.. so so so many are clapping their hands after each movement!
The silence between the movements is part of the concert too. I guess folks can’t stay focused the whole time.
And here in America it’s normal to get up and run out of the concert hall before all the applauses finish. So rude! The artists are still on the stage and ppl rush to get their cars out of the parking lot before the others. It’s like a sudden savage contest, who gets out first.
It is impolite to even put your coat before the conductor and most of the musicians are out of the stage.‬

‪I've attended concerts, opera, and theater at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Not only do they get outstanding shows, they are presented in a fine venue with interesting architecture and excellent acoustics. Transportation/parking can be tough, but it is within walking distance of a metro stop (for a healthy adult).‬

‪Went to see Swan Lake performed by the American Ballet. It was breathtaking. The stage, the dancers, all of the Kennedy Center staff were wonderful. When you arrive you are greeted at least once by someone who is offering to help you find whatever it is you're looking for. The building is majestic and impressive. The ballet was so delightful and received a standing ovation.‬

‪The Terrace Theater is a medium-size concert hall. Neither huge nor intimate. We attended a concert which paired Stravinsky's "Soldier's Tale" with Wynton Marsalis' "Fiddler's Tale." We liked the Stravinsky better musically. But the players -- all African-American -- were terrific, and the narrator for the Fiddler's Tale -- she played the wife on the Cosby Show -- had a great voice and nearly was able to rescue a flawed script. The acoustics were lovely, and the audience was delightfully integrated.‬
