In una Slovenia proiettata alla tradizione cultura tedesca ci si trova impreparati davanti alla maestosa statua del dittatore Jugoslavo. Un fotogramma di un passato di Velenje molto legata a Tito. Un ricordo importante per le generazioni che non ricordano quella fase storica e, spesso, nemmeno la guerra più recente che ha dilaniato tutta le regione balcanica.

The statue is about 10 m high and was erected in 1977, representing the great yugoslav politician in deep thoughts, allegedly in one of the clef-situation during the 2nd world war. The author of the statue is the well-known Croatian sculpturer Augustinčić, whose Tito-statue (smaller, though) stands also in Kumrovec, Croatia, in front of the house where Tito was born and where he grew up.
The most of the town was built between 1952 and 1980, so there remains a kind of special relationship, special atittude to Tito, which probably preserved the statue on its place throughout the nineties as the monuments of the ancien regime were often pulled down and removed. It stands in the very center of the town, with house of culture on its left and the town council building on its right, surrounded by a small park.
In the neighbourhood, there are several caffes, restaurants, a shopping mall as well as the bus station, cinema, public library, post-office.

L'importanza di Tito per Velenje si percepisce ovunque (la città cambiò addirittura il nome per onorarlo). La statua, sulla piazza principale lato castello, è all'interno di una ampia aiuola.

Nella piazza principale sorge la statua di Tito più alta della Slovenia, un monumento al passato con una piazza in vero stile comunista. Se passate dal centro, nella giornata di sabato è presente il mercato settimanale. Se soggiornate qui è obbligatorio un passaggio anche veloce.

Se vi trovate a passare nella città di Velenje fermatevi a guardare questa enorme statua che si trova nel centro cittadino .

In tge centre. Good to see this Yougoslav's commander monument to recall the old days. Today rather with lack of attention sorounded by skateboarders.

Памятник Иосипу Броз Тито. Президент Югославии (1953–1980), председатель Правительства Югославии (1945–1953). Его внутренняя политика, которую считали объединяющим символом, сохраняла мирное сосуществование народов Югославской федерации. Он привлекал к себе дополнительное внимание мира тем, что был главным лидером Движения неприсоединения и сотрудничал с Джавахарлалом Неру в Индии, Гамалем Абделем Насером в Египте, Сукарно в Индонезии и другими.

Every time i pass by the statue i am in awe how well it encapsulates the power of the great president Tito. Some statues don't capture the essence of a person and can look a little amateur. But this statue is perfect. A must see iconic monument.
