Disappointed.
We’ve been to many safari parks and experiences across the UK and US and this was very disappointing.
We’re a family of two adults and two young children. We booked the day and stayed offsite in an AirBnB.
On arrival we were excited having wanted to come here for many years. We started our day with the safari, and although the weather wasn’t great, it was seriously lacking vs seeing animals at say West Midlands safari park. Lots of deer based animals and any of the more exciting ones, the truck just blasted past with no stopping. Many enclosures empty and 45 mins later we were back after seeing not that much. However understand this is a large area and animals can be inside if the weather is rubbish.
But then as we explore the park, many enclosures we’re empty. Again appreciate they may be inside, however as we walked we found 95% of the enclosures you could not see their inside accommodation. When you’re paying 90£, you do expect to see some animals, but we saw nothing! No gorillas, no lions, no rhino. Nothing! We basically walked 10k up some very steep hills to see some lemurs and wallaby’s,
What I’m thinking, and based on reviews here, if you stay onsite you get a very different experience. So I feel this place pushes you to stay where you can then have buggy’s, 121 experiences or visit after hours. Personally I feel this out prices many families and we will not be visiting again. Personally I am glad we didn’t fork out 800£ to stay onsite to be equally disappointed.
My advice, go to west midlands safari park or Woburn safari park, 100x better than here.

We stayed in the Treetop Bubble for a special birthday celebration, we were not disappointed. The view was beautiful especially watching the sunset, and the uninterrupted view of the night sky. Accommodation was clean and cosy with everything you could need, including your own buggy to travel around the park.
All the staff were great and we would like to call out Woody, who was our host in the Treetop Clubhouse, as a fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable member of the team who topped off our stay. Thankyou Port Lympne!

On the 8th of March, I left Port Lympne not only heavily disappointed but physically shaken up, bruised and with a sore twisted neck, from which I have had to take days off of work to recover.
My mother is a long-term wheelchair user so I am well versed in taking the time to contact venues to ensure her safety, enjoyment and use of the facilities well in advance of booking.
I was informed that the Safari was suitable for wheelchair users and had an access lift on the rear.
Before starting the Sarfari the group was told to use the emergency button if anyone needed medical attention during the drive.
The trailer was attached to a truck, and both Mum and I sat right at the back, so we did expect a bump or two but we did not expect the force of the bumps to be so violently dangerous and continuous. I had to use my full body weight to hold my mother throughout the 45-minute journey or she would have fallen out of her chair and seriously injured herself.
At one point I nearly called for help, but it was clear there was no other way of returning safely. As I held onto my mother to keep her in her wheelchair, her arms, neck and entire body were being thrown about, my leg and arms hit her chair leaving me buried and with a very sore neck.
This is yet another example of an establishment stating they have made 'reasonable adjustments' for wheelchair users when these are not reasonable but dangerous.
Advice to Port Lympne management, If you want to ensure that you have 'reasonable adjustments' you must employ a professional Occupational Therapist, whose job it is to ensure the safety of your wheelchair users.

We stayed in Rhino Lodge.
It was absolutely fabulous. The staff were really attentive. We ate in the Garden Room for breakfast, which was really good. We ate in Babydolls on the first night and on the second night we ordered from Babydolls to be delivered to the Lodge.
We did, the gorilla feeding experience, the giraffe experience and the leopard experience which were all fabulous.
Will definitely be back.

We had a great day today despite the awful weather, we enjoyed our safari and saw a few animals the rest were hiding from the rain ☔️. The Rhinos were amazing, everyone was really friendly. We’ll be off to Howletts soon as haven’t been for years.

This was a great zoo to go to and I was really happy to see all of the animals. I’ve visited Howletts before and I must say they are wonderful zoos to visit if you want a foresty walk as well as exotic wildlife.
The weather was a bit rubbish but it was still warm and the sea view from the top was really nice to look out over. The stairs however were a bit slippery due to all the rain and the quantity of mud was huge.
The dino trail was amazing to walk down to learn about all of the dinosaurs. I’ve always been fascinated by animals, (big cats and dinosaurs in particular) and it was super fun to have a scenic walk through the Jurassic periods.
We did however get stuck in the mud on the way out, which gave a small delay but we made it out in the end after some determination. After this we went to the beach afterwards and got some fish and chips.
Overall it was great but one of the tigers was injured without any notice or bandaging. Would definitely recommend to other animal lovers. Me as a therian, Otherkin and Paleokin; it really made me happy coming here!

My daughter booked us an overnight stay at Hog Deer Lodge. The weather was awful but didn't spoil our stay at all. Our accommodation was warm, comfortable and cosy with a log burner. We ate at Babydolls restaurant where the food was absolutely delicious and of a good price. The service was excellent. We went on a safari to feed giraffes and rhinos. We got to see a lot of the animals....those who were happy to be outside in the bad weather, obviously some animals preferred to be inside in the warm, and who can blame them!! Charlie, our ranger was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the different species and is obviously passionate about the animals. Feeding the giraffes and rhinos was an absolute delight! We love that the ethos is that the animals are not there for human entertainment - rightly so. The animals are well looked after and provided with various enrichments. Staff throughout were friendly, helpful and smiling. I totally recommend a visit/stay. We will definitely be back. 10 out of 10.
Top tip, ensure you're well equipped for any bad weather: hats, scarves, waterproofs, gloves and decent walking boots as it can get muddy and cold. We absolutely loved it.

Visited during half term, it was extremely busy as to be expected. Always a popular place with the kids. As a member I tried to book the safari bus and on the last few ocassions this hasn’t been possible to do online ahead of our visit. I’ve brought this to the staffs attention on last two visits. My recommendation would be to plan and book your visit (including the safari bus trip) well in advance to avoid disappointment. The main areas to see the bigger animals can only be reached by the Safari trucks so if you can’t get on this you don’t get to see the main areas of the zoo which can be disappointing, especially if you’ve travelled afar or have young children who are excited to see the animals. There are good facilities here and mostly staff are helpful where possible. There are vehicles that can help safely transport anyone with mobility issues back to the main entrance or base camp if needed.
If walking around it can be quite dangerous and annoying with the vast amount of vehicles whizzing up and down the pathways so be mindful of visiting with young children and the constant need to move back and forth with traffic going up and down, sometimes quite fast at a an alarming speed. Lots of conservation efforts made by Port Lympne and Howletts and lots of education and knowledge on the subject and staff are often helpful to discuss the subjects where knowledgable. Happy to continue supporting by buying annual memberships for the family and pleased to see good support for those that require assistance for additional needs. A nice place to visit along with their ‘sister’ zoo at Howletts which you can also visit with your membership which now covers both zoos. As regular visitors we go between the two zoos throughout the year and always enjoy our days out.

Went on an Ultimate Safari yesterday with ranger Casey. We had a brilliant time, despite the weather being abysmal! We fed Rosie the rhino and Cillian the giraffe. Casey the ranger was engaging, knowledgeable, personable and definitely made our experience a memorable one. Thank you Casey, we hope to return when the rain isn’t quite as torrential!

before i booked i checked trip advisor and was disapointed to see so many bad reviews. i decided to ignore them and book anyway. i haven’t been to port lympne for a few years.
we booked online and arrived around 10am.
greeted by a lovely man who gave us two more tickets for the safari as we had only been able to book two online.
yes there’s lots of walking but we were prepared for that. i have had knee replacements as well and managed fine.
we saw lots of animals on the safari and really had a lovely day. we also saw plenty of animals as we walked around the park.
the food is pricey so we took our own.
we found everything we needed too and didn’t get lost.
we really enjoyed port lympne and recommend as a lovely day out.

Good morning, if you look at Google Maps, it will plan your journey to get there from your starting point.
Myself and my partner have booked to go to Port Lympne Safari Park for my birthday and we was wondering how many times can you book on to go round the Safari? We’ve been to places like WMSP and Longleat and you can go round as many times as you like!

Hi, I’m assuming you’ve got day tickets? The safari trucks go round the reserve at regular intervals, you will need to book. Bear in kind the truck goes to the same area every time. Go to the large wooden hut and talk to the staff there, they’re always very helpful. The trucks take you to the open grazing areas, which are huge. This section is inhabited by bison and lots of antelope species. There giraffes are at the top of the site. There is no other access to these areas other than the trucks. The walk through is only a small area. The site itself is very hilly and quite steep in places. If you stay in the hotel you get a golf buggy which is great for going round the reserve but you have to adhere to clearly marked routes. Hope this helps, have a great day!

Hi can you hire a golf buggy if you are staying in a glamping pod

Hi ,
I am not sure from looking at options of staying over. I think it was only an option for a golf buggy staying in the hotel bit. But speak to guest services and they should be able to advise. If you are already on site , if you head over from the barn base camp follow the path along you come to the hotel bit and golf buggies probably best to ask there. On the map it is next to the hippo pool which is a statue. But the golf buggy hire point is next to it.
Thanks

Hi
We're due to stay in the Tiger Lodge next month, and so to maximise our time there (given the cost), we were thinking of the takeaway option for dinner. Has anyone had this before and do you have any recommendations on the nicest restaurants for diner/breakfast please?
Also, does anyone have any recommendations on the animal encounters? My mum loves Gorillas but she would also love a hands on experience, and so I'm torn between the gorilla and primate encounter.
Many thanks
Carolyn

I have viewed the gorilla encounter as just a guest on the day and the scatter feed is off the roof of the closure. So one to be aware of if any in your group are nervous of heights. But the scatter feed was great to see, which I think happens 3 times through out the day , and overhearing people coming back down after the scatter feed there is more to the experience in the back area of the enclosure with the gorillas. Which would be awesome. It did look like an incredible experience.

If taking a picnic are you able to leave it in the car, return to collect it and go back through? We have a safari booked so wouldn’t want to have to carry it around during

Yes I am quite sure you are able to access your car at any point during the day.
Would this be suitable for a one year old? Would we get round the park with a buggy? Also would the safari be ok for him?

On the Safari you would have to hold your child . Park is big but lovely. Don't think they would allow you to have a buggy with younger children.

I am interested in an overnight stay. But cannot fathom the safety aspect. How do you get to your lodge safely ?
And if there are lions roaming around your lodge; out again ?
And is an open small buggy safe in what is essentially a stay in a lion enclosure ? I cannot understand how it is not an accident waiting to happen. I would love to stay but don't see how it is safe ?

Your lodge is not open to the enclosures but rather has a unique viewing perspective. All animals are safely locked in enclosures so there’s no risk but it’s great fun!

Wondering if anyone knows the difference between the included safari and the giraffe or AAA safari?
Ann C

The included safari is an hour on one of the safari wagons with a full comment of people. I think the other has much less people per session so can ask questions & atop etc. We thought the included one was very good if you want to view the animals around the park & learn a little more about them
