The old Hall is finally open!!!!!
Great to go back in after about 10 years!!
They have made things much safer and done things to protect the plaster on the walls.
Really enjoyed going round with my Daughter as she was only about 4 the last time we went in!!
We had tapes then as well when we went before!!
Well done to the National Trust and English Heritage for opening it again!! 👍🏻👍🏻.

We came to the old hall after going to the main house. This was in our opinion a lot better to visit and explore. We climbed to the top and looked at the views from the top, you get free entry with your national trust membership cards although it is English heritage.

The original Hardwick Hall is largely ruined but still impressive in its scale.
You can climb to the top of the property and take in spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and newer hall.
Well maintained.

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting this once loved family home and learning about plans for it's preservation. As you walk around you get a feeling for what each room would have looked like. Wonderful fireplaces and plasterwork remain.

I wouldn’t take issue with the quality of the restoration work which is attested to by the DHBT review. However, I do feel strongly that English Heritage should have taken the opportunity to make access improvements for the benefit of those with mobility problems. From our visit earlier this year with a wheelchair user in our party there was no evidence that anything had been spent in this regard. Even modest expenditure on surfaced paths and local ramps would have made a great improvement. I wonder what the planning approved ‘Access Statement’ or conditions of public funding said about it? This opportunity was squandered.

We visited here with us being English Heritage members, & most recently it has re-opened, after extensive refurbishments.
This was my first time visiting, & I definitely have to say, I was impressed by all the white plaster features they have installed to highlight different area’s of the building, you can just imagine how grand it must of been years ago.

Finally Hardwick Old Hall is open again. After a long period of repairs we are now able to wander through the historic ruins of Bess's home. I was expecting to pay an admission charge as I'm not an English Heritage member but my National Trust membership did the trick. NT staff were available to chat and answer questions.

The Old Hall has Re-Opened!!! And they have definitely improved the brick work to make it look cleaner etc… original brickwork still there but the odd repairs but this has to be done. You don’t go through the shop part anymore just someone on the entrance checking cards for NT and EH was nice to go back and enjoy once again, amazing views as always xx

After working around the beautiful gardens of the majestic Hall, we wandered by wondering what this building actuall was, the staff we met in the garden filled us in with all the details. Now in the process with scaffolding of being brought back to life

A very nice place to visit if you are in the area. Beautiful grounds, a very nice coffee shop and when sitting outside the views are amazing. The house is full of history and really reflects the graft and determination of the Bess of Hardwick. Fantastic architecture and inside the hall there are wonderful artefacts from the Elizabethan era. A great day out for all the family.
