We stayed at the property during the journey of Celestine V.
The guided tour of the hermitage is not to be missed.
For a year the hermitage has been providing the guesthouse with living room, dinner and breakfast. The experience was wonderful. The rooms, once monks' cells, are not very large but simple and comfortable. The bathroom is not always in the room: it is almost always down the hall, but it is still exclusive to the room with which it is associated.
After the closure of the hermitage with us only the cook and the girl who helps in the kitchen remain. The data connection for mobile phones is not there and to be able to make a phone call you need to get open to go out and find a point where there is a bit of field on the outside square (we left the door of the church, even the facade lit up in the dark of night is very nice). alternatively you can use the satellite phone they have available (but if you do not notify the recipients of your call they mistake the number for a call center and do not answer ...).
Dinner was served in the refectory of the hermitage and the courses (mixed appetizers, a first course, a second course, a dessert) were local products and recipes cooked so well that they elevated in addition to the body also the spirit (in particular the iacottura sheep is one of the best ever eaten even by those of us from Abruzzo). All in an atmosphere made even more suggestive by Gregorian chants in the background.
There was no shortage of local coffee and coffee killers. Breakfast was also served in the refectory: we were granted the courtesy of bringing forward the time; among other things, the hot croissants prepared the night before, risen at night and baked at the time.
The cost of overnight stay with dinner and breakfast is an expense worth making: we highly recommend it!

On 3 levels excavated partly on a rock wall with the addition of constructions of the same excavation stone ... dating back to the Middle Ages and despite looting and abandonment by barbarians and Napoleon the stone ashlars and the rock of which it is made give a sense of immortality to human works made of sacrifice and devotion.... Fresh fountain at the entrance ... Gregorian chants in the chapel ... accessible by car .. make a welcome and surprising destination ... collects you and makes you meditate ... always cool weather even in mid-August ... in short, refreshment x body and spirit !!

Unique and unforgettable!
It is wonderful to discover this other aspect of the Majella, immersed in history and nature.
The hermitage is managed by a cooperative of very attentive and fast boys in the management of Reservation, Reception and Visit.
We did the guided tour, almost two hours, and for the richness and detail of the explanations it felt like going back 800 years.
The site is then immersed in lush and predominant nature, impossible not to be fascinated.
It is also possible to start from Santo Spirito and walk a real path of the hermitages in several days or choose the closest ones.
Near the parking area there is a small picnic area with tables and benches immersed in the beech forest, very useful for the after tour.

You can get there by car under the hermitage. There is a group of guys who organize the guides (at certain times, minimum four people) otherwise you pay a cheaper ticket and visit alone. Thanks to the boys there is also a dining area. Recommendation the guided tour for the historical framing and to understand the various historical levels of the monument.

Peaceful place, with wonderful views.
The guides are extremely kind and knowledgeable.
Recommendation to do the guided tour to understand what you are visiting and to understand the little things that maybe, without them, you would not notice.

A spectacular hermitage in the Majella mountains, it is well maintained but some parts, such as the vegetable gardens where the monks collected medicinal herbs, should be restored.
If you don't know the history of Celestine V it is better to choose the guided tour.

One of the hermitages of Celestine V, built attached to the rock and of great mysticism. In the middle of a wooded area it contains some remains of the rooms where the Pope stayed, whom Dante placed in the circle of the ignavi for having renounced the papal throne. The guided tour is instructive, essential for those who do not know the life of Celestine V. Very beautiful not to be missed

Buongiorno,
