‪Well worth the effort‬
‪The church on grounds of Raitenhaselach monastery is well worth the visit. The exterior is in need of TLC but the exterior has been restored to early grandeur. Colorful and extravagant Baroque ornamentation will not disappoint. ‬

‪former Abbey / Monastery Raitenhaslach Church‬
‪St. George and Pankratius Church is a former Abbey / Monastery Raitenhaslach Church, is now the parish church of Raitenhaslach, city Burghausen. In 1146 the Cistercians moved in in the already in 788 first mentioned in "Ratinhaselach" and immediately began the construction of the monasterychurch. Mid-13th century the Cathedral burned down, the main walls of the Church were however preserved. It was rebuilt. In 1585 Abbot Stossberger built the belltower, set beautifully carved choir stalls, embellished some altars, put a marble paving and built even an organ. Once again reconstruction took place around 1700 without loosing it’s characteristic of a Cistercian church. The most comprehensive restoration started in 1735 under Abbot Robert Pendtner. The Interior of the Church then was so Baroque as it shows in the current situation. 1803, in the order of the secularization, the Bavarian Government lifted the Cistercian Monastery, demolished chapels and part of the monasterybuilding (including the valuable library). What remained is a fantastic barockish room with a magnificent rococo equipment. The 131 coat of arms at the altars refer to members of the nobility who are buried there, including Hedwig, Queen of Poland. In 1982 began a five year total restoration of the monasterychurch, and now shines, more beautiful than ever.‬
