Wonderful Duomo with stunning art works that have stood the test of time really well. Well worth a visit and be sure to also go to the home of the Popes which is included in your ticket - it is round the back and has an underground area then go upstairs to the exhibits. Just stunning and a highlight of the trip for me.
For those looking to pray or light a candle for a loved one you go out and back into the Duomo on the right ( as you exit) and there is a separate entrance and area for worship.

The cathedral flagstone was laid on 13 November 1290 but work (reconstruction, redesign) continued into the 20th century. In fact, the beautiful bronze doors were added in 1970.
The side walls, alternating layers of local white travertine and blue-grey basalt stone are a stark, but beautiful contrast to the glittering gold-accented front facade.
Unfortunately, we could not enter the church owing to a funeral.
A large rose window and golden mosaics, and a wealth of sculpture festoon the front. The cathedral has five bells, dating back to the Renaissance.

Assolutamente da non perdere, questo capolavoro dell'arte gotica, magnificamente conservato, è bellissimo da fuori, con una facciata sbalorditiva, e bellissimo all'interno con opere d'arte, affreschi nelle tre navate e nelle cappelle laterali
prezzo di ingresso a 5€, praticamente nulla, che comprende anche l'ingresso al museo dell'opera del duomo

Prachtige dom met een onwaarschijnlijke façade!
Entree is 5 euro pp en je koopt het kaartje aan de overkant.
Let op dat je je schouders bedekt hebt, verplicht.
Wil je geen 5 euro betalen ga dan via de linkerzijde naar binnen bij de kapel worship. Je kunt dan al het moois wel zien aan de binnenzijde maar er niet rondlopen

Aussi imposante que celle de Strasbourg,aussi fine que celle de Milan,aussi exubérante que celle de Venise,plus riche de détails que celle de Florence,cette façade est extraordinaire !
Il faut prendre le temps d admirer les bas reliefs,les mosaïques,la rosace,les statues
A l intérieur,c est surtout La Chapelle de San Brizio qui est fascinante ,5 années pour peindre ces chefs-d’œuvre qui auraient inspiré Michel Ange pour La Chapelle Sixtine

Dedicato alla Vergine Maria Assunta, fu fatto costruire per volere del pontefice Nicola IV a seguito di un miracolo e per custodirne il Corporale (capolavoro d’oreficeria eseguito nel 1337 contenente la reliquia del Sacro Lino). Non si può non rimanere incantati davanti alla sua bellissima facciata, larga 40 ed alta 52 m ed impreziosita da mosaici, da bassorilievi e da un rosone. All’interno, in fondo alla navata destra, la Cappella Nuova, o di San Brizio, con gli splendidi affreschi di Luca Signorelli, dirimpetto invece la Cappella del Corporale.

Bellissimo il duomo, ingresso a pagamento ma ne vale la pena, entrando si rimane veramente sorpresi dalla maestosità della struttura e delle sue opere all'interno.

Sicuramente un capolavoro dell'architettura italiana, la facciata del duomo lascia senza fiato ed il suo interno merita il prezzo del biglietto. Da non perdere

Il Duomo di Orvieto lo si trova girovagando tra le stradine del suo meraviglioso centro storico e una volta lì si resta davvero estasiati per la sua particolare bellezza ed imponenza

Hi, there is a funicolare that brings you from train station up to orvieto. There’s so much so much to see, don’t miss pozzo of san patrizzio (near funicolare) and the caves underground etc etc

I visited the Orvieto Duomo in late March in the late morning hours-- probably 11 or 12 noon. I couldn't believe how much the façade sparkled and glittered in the sun then! Like magic! I took my husband to see it in early January, around 3 in the afternoon, and was so disappointed, as there was no sparkle and glitter at that hour. I would like to show him photos or videos which capture that magical sparkle. Can anyone recommend some? The locals told me the best time to catch the sparkle is 10 a.m. in the winter. Others said 1-2 in the afternoon. I don't know which is correct? They said sometimes the front sparkles right around sunset, 4ish in the afternoon. Does anyone know whether there is more sparkle in the spring and summer than in the fall and winter? I am planning another trip so he can see it sparkle in person.

We were there the third week of September 2018. When we arrived around 3:00pm, the Duomo facade was breathtaking. The light was perfect. We literally sat against the wall adjacent to the church for at least an hour looking at all the different statues, pictures and stories. We stayed in Orvieto for six days and every afternoon, we would go to the Piazza, have a glass of wine and view the facade. Absolutely wonderful and we are now planning to return in May.

Where does one park to see the Duomo?

We were in Orvieto for six days and the best place to park was by the Funiculari. It cost one Euro per day. The walk to the Duomo was about a 10-15 minute. We only found one parking lot near the Duomo, but was easier to park by the Funiculari and walk since the street/roads are very narrow and mostly one way.
