This museum tells the powerful story of the time of the Nazis occupied Narvik. It starts with explaining why Narvick was important, then shows you the battles that took place, and finally how things were under the occupation. All though northern Norway you'll hear about the effects of the Nazi occupation, and this museum puts it all in context.

Incredible museum depicting events that happened in Narvik during World War II. Objects, photos and videos enrich the experience and get you to know more about the story. It's worth it!

We found this museum interesting and well-presented. Explains WWII conditions clearly, from several different perspectives. See our photo for one example. Recommend.

Do yourself a favor and watch the movie on Netflix or whichever streaming service carries it when you read this review… Great movie, but also gives you some context for the battles here in 1940 that seem to have truly shaped this city (and perhaps all of Norway, as the German invasion drove Norway away from neutrality and into NATO after the war). The museum has a very cool multimedia experience illustrating the attacks and counterattacks (before the allies abandoned Norway while they tended to the continental theatre) around Narvik. There is a lot to see and learn about the Norwegian resistance, Hitler’s vision re: Norway, labor camps in the north, and more. An exhibit on the final floor encourages reflection on the nature of war… Several interactive exhibits helped keep this engaging, even for the teenager.
All in all, this was truly an exceptional museum, whether you are a WWII buff (as my wife is — the whole trip was inspired by the Narvik film!) or not.

Difficult to get there by big car as there is little parking nearby. Otherwise the trip to the museum was totally okay. We had neither a guide nor an audio guide but read the posters ourselves. If you are in Narvik you should visit this museum.

This visit gave us all a thought provoking experience. I've been here before, but it just got better. Very well presented, and with a fantastic selection of memorabilia from the war.
Children, young adults, parents, dates, grandparents, neighbours, friends; take them with you.
I highly recommend it! And still is in my mind.

This is a really good museum which whilst focussing on the Battle of Narvik, also details a timeline of WWII and what happened in Norway in general both before, during and after the war. It also has some exhibits about war in general and the current situation in the Ukraine.
The museum is well laid out with good information and some excellent displays. My only issue was with some of the information placed at ankle height which meant a lot of bending over and there were one or two interactive displays that didn’t seem to work. On the whole though, easy to spend an hour or two in here, depending on how interested in the detail you are. Recommended.

Centrally located, the Narvik Krigsmuseum is a must visit if passing through Narvik.
An unfortunate confluence of geography by being an all year ice free port, and at the end of the railway shipping iron ore out of Sweden, led to Narvik being a major location of fighting in April June 1940. And this is primarily why the museum is here.
Located over three floors, the entrance is to the top floor. Here, initial sections tell of Norway's neutrality at the start of World War II, before recounting the events of Spring 1940. The exhibits are thoughtfully selected, well curated and set with interpretation boards in both Norwegian and accurately translated English.
While this floor is mainly about military history and covers a brief period, a descent to the floor below blends military with social history as it recalls the years of German occupation during the war years. It also extends to the local prisoner of war / labour camps that were in the area, the brutality that occurred within them, and confronts some uncomfortable issues such as the Norwegians who helped to facilitate these camps, or who aligned themselves and fought with the German forces. And what happened immediately after the end of the war.
The bottom floor is quite different. But on the way is a gem, the 'depository'. Most museums hold more than they show, these exhibits generally being held out of public view, slowly collecting dust and drifting into obscurity. However, in their museum, they are held in a large room, on view, with a brief description of what the exhibit it. It's a very good idea to keep these exhibits on show.
Further on you will enter the 'Zona'. This is much more of a philosophical display, exploring the rights and wrongs of modern conflict. No answers, I guess it's meant to promote debate and discussion. It may not be to everybody's taste, but for those who find it generates discussion and thought, I guess it achieves the aim.
Outside the entrance to the museum is a gift shop. There is a good collection of books, but sadly only a couple in English (and that includes the very detailed museum Guide). As the museum is colocated with the library and the information centre, there is also a very good coffee shop.
I spent a good couple of hours here, and like any interesting museum, felt I could revisit the next day and see exhibits missed, or in a different light.
Recommended.

If you are interested in the events surrounding WWII in Norway, this will be interesting. Lots to read, little video. Lots of WWII equipment from Germans, Norwegians, Soviets and even Americans. If WWII history is not your thing, gets boring quickly.

How far is the museum from the cruise terminal? Is it possible to walk there or would a taxi be better?
كُتب بتاريخ 13 يونيو 2019
I think there are two possible cruise docks in Narvik, but they are a considerable way from the town. Our cruise line (Viking) ran a free shuttle bus to the centre of town, which I suspect is the norm for all cruise lines. The shuttle bus drop off point is a few hundred (200 - 300?) from the museum.

I think we paid 110 N Krone, but that might have been a concession price.

Hi, are you selling books and info from WW2? I am specifically after info on The Battle of Narvik in June 1940. Would you also have the facilities if I give you the name of one English Sailor -Angus McIntosh MBE, DSO, Croix de Guerre medals. Looking forward to your reply as I am in Narvik the second week end in September 2017.

The opening times and prices
كُتب بتاريخ 8 فبراير 2016
I can confirm that admission was NOR 75 last September (approx £6). I may be wrong but my recollection is that it is cash only. I don't know the opening hours but it was open on a Sunday and not much else is open on a Sunday in Narvik. However, there was a small cafe in or beside a clothing shop nearby.
I would advise you to allow at least 2-3 hours to do this place justice.
