This is an excellent privately curated museum of the 1st world war. Full of exhibits and information. Its small but well worth a visit if you are interested in the battles around Ypres and surrounding areas.

This World War 1 museum with attached cafe is well worth a visit. Lots of information, exhibits and a video to watch. The attached cafe has friendly staff and tasty food.

Lovely little museum with lots of memorabilia and artefacts. Lovely café, with lovely friendly staff.

Doubtlessly the best and most welcoming 'history hub' of the region. A fantastic WW1 museum linking to an excellent café, where one can enjoy the very best of Flemish hospitality. Great food, beautiful beers and hot drinks. Spotlessly clean and tidy at all times.

Always get a warm welcome from all the family,even the boys are getting in on the act now with a video. The museum is not to be missed,it has an excellent range of items.

Zeer informatief museum op de plaats van het slagveld. Brengt alles heel dichtbij. Waar we nu koffie zitten te drinken, stierven destijds duizenden soldaten...

What a fantastic little museum this is. Absolutely brilliant. Well worth a visit. Would highly recommend to all. Would happily pay double the entrance fee.

Sehr nett gestaltetes privates Museum. Viele Informationen auch für Kinder mit Videos der Kinder der Museumsbesitzer. Sehr sauber und ordentlich- auch die WC-Anlagen. Trotz vieler Reisebusse.

It was a brilliant visit and everybody is so friendly. They pay great attention to detail. I can Highly recommend the Hooge crater museum.

some reviews mention trenches and crater nearby to the museum. are these free to see or can you only access after paying museum entry?
is the museum a good one for kids age 7 and 10? the reconstructed trenches in the museum- can you actually walk through them?

the museum and trench area are close together. The museum is definitely worth a visit. I'd allow an 1-2 hours total depending on the level of subject matter interest you have. I can't imagine many 7 year olds enjoying the museum displays, and depending on the particular 10 year old, the museum may hold little interest.

An excellent resource is Major and Mrs.Holt's Battlefield Guide to Ypres Salient (Major & Mrs Holt's Battlefield Guide) by Tonie Holt ( 1997 ) Paperback
It can be a bit tricky finding what is on the map but this is an excellent resource and if you are visiting the area worth purchasing before your visit.

Friends and i are visiting this area in June and are potentially interested in visiting. Can anyone advise:
A. how long is a sensible amount of time that would need to be spent here?
B. Anything we should be aware about of visiting in June e.g. closures.
C. What the opening/closing days/times are?

The museum & cafe is closed on Mondays I believe.
