This village, which we visited early in the morning without the confusion of other tourists, we loved it, both the area with the church, the one with the cottages along the river, the Mill and the lovely bridges that cross the river.
We were projected into the middle of the English countryside, where outside the village we found fences with sheep grazing, the woods in the distance....

St. Mary's Church is a serene retreat in the heart of the Bibury. With its ancient stone walls and stunning stained glass windows, it's a place of quiet beauty.
One of the highlights of my visit was discovering the picturesque churchyard, with its ancient gravestones and lush greenery. It was a peaceful oasis, offering a moment of quiet contemplation amidst the hustle and bustle.

The English countryside is full of pretty Gothic stone churches with half-timbered roofs. Birbury is a perfect example of this and is worth your visit.

We were staying in the village for Christmas and our highlight was to be able to walk to the church. Beautifully decorated and kept open at all times. We attended the crib service on Christmas Eve. All absolutely wonderful. Thank you.

A peaceful Sunday morning with the bells of the church ringing out at 10.45 to gather parishioners. Nice old church with a welcoming row of David Austen standard roses lining its path.

I can really only reiterate what has already been said in that this is a really charming church in a lovely locale. Clearly well loved and cared for outside and in. One thing I did notice on this visit is what I took arguably to be a single crusader cross carved on the inner right door pillar as you enter and about 5 ft or so up the support. Cant find any mention of it anywhere. Maybe I am wrong. I dont know.There are certainly churches in this area known to have these crosses such as the ones on the left hand door pillar of St Georges in Kencot.

The church is at one edge of the village and is approached via a path lined with rose bushes. Entry is via a wooden door and then a glass door and inside it is a delight...plus....there is a lot of crockery, books and nick-knacks to buy, it's like a charity shop inside.
The architecture inside is stunning and there are many brochures to view too.

If I wished to be buried, which I do not at this stage, then this would be the church and surrounds I would request. Simply stunning. Look out for the gargoyles!!

Tranquil, historical, friendly, immaculate, picturesque, a must do when in Bibury.
