‪A super short easy hike (not sure I'd even call it a hike, it was so short) to a waterfall. The water was cool and refreshing. Get to the park early, like right when it opens. There is very limited parking on the side of the road, and if you don't get the parking you have to walk from quite a ways to get to the falls. The water is not very deep. This one is popular and there were more people.‬

‪These falls are a short, but easy, hike into the forest. There are two sets of falls, upper and lower. These are the falls that you likely see when you look at pics of people taking a waterfall shower in El Yunque. The area surrounding them was beautiful and the sound of the falling water was quite peaceful. I highly recommend seeing them.‬

‪There are actually three different waterfalls here - the first and second are easy to get to but the third is a bit taxing. Definitely need a good pair of sneakers and both hands free (i.e. have a backpack). ‬

‪Easy access to small waterfall you can stand or swim under. Good for bigger kids and teens. Nothing adventurous here but nice and please ‬

‪When I was a child we use to visit and swim in Lo Mina Falls all the time. I wanted my kids to have that experience, so we decided to try Juan Diego since the other falls were closed due to hurricane damage. This was such a cool experience for them. The trail up has some concrete steps to start and then the rest of the trail is a very uneven path, so be prepared with proper shoes but it will be worth the hike. The water is cold but refreshing and the scenery is stunning. We spent a good bit of time here and it is was the kids favorite thing from our trip.‬

‪Only big waterfall open in the park as of end of August 2022. Go past all the small ones and keep climbing to get to the big one at the top where few people go. The path is the right and then at the "Y" go left where you will see a rope protecting the edge. Just over that hill, is the big falls.‬

‪The hikes were great. Be prepared with a backpack of water, towel, swim shoes. I was not prepared to get in the water so do prepare. The waterfalls are so amazing and beautiful. ‬

‪With La Mina & Big Tree trails still closed from Hurricanes Maria/Irma, Juan Diego has probably gotten more popular. Note that you now need a reservation (day pass) to access El Yunque, can't just drive up. Reservations ($2/car) open 30 days in advance and do sell out.

There's limited parking so if you see one at the small lot approaching km 9.8 (falls are at 9.9), take it! The trail is very short to the falls, couple minutes. It is not level (stone steps first part) but most people can make it (unless elderly / handicapped). The trail passes some pretty pools/small falls before the main one. Might be good place to cool off with young kids. Lots of people at main falls but if you go left where the river goes downstream you can walk along the boulders and enjoy insane beauty of rain forest in peace a bit.

Looking above the main falls you can see another falls upstream thru the greenery. To the right there is an unofficial path up to those. It is very steep but lots of rocks/tree roots for leverage. Tropical storm dropped rain all day on Sun so we waited to Tues to go and didn't have problems with mud. Only takes 10 min or less to get to 2nd larger, less crowded falls. Definitely do if you enjoy exploring, but not for young children or elderly - need to be in reasonable shape & have decent shoes.

Read there are 3 more falls upstream, progressively much harder to get to. Tried to make it to 3rd one but reached a point in the path where couldn't go further. Saw a trail to the left back towards the stream....reread later you cross back over the stream so maybe we should have taken that one.

Total time there 1 hr 15 min.‬

‪Juan Diego Falls...a tourist favorite. This is a bi-level waterfall. The first portion is smaller and easily accessed from an easy trail. There is a good size pool area that can be waded in. The second level is less traveled and harder to access. This waterfall is alot bigger.‬

‪These are some beautiful falls - and very easily accessible. There are two main pools (so two waterfalls). The lower fall is a mere 5-10 minutes easy walk from the pool. It’s nice but nothing breathtaking. On the right of the pools, however, is a rough trail leading up to the second waterfall. THAT’S the pool you NEED to see - it’s phenomenal. That said, the trail is extremely strenuous and basically a vertical mud scramble. People are struggling up and down it, falling into mud, and clinging to roots. The reward is worthwhile, however.

Bring a swimsuit if you want to swim in the pools (it’s what everyone else is doing!). Sometimes, people will hog the falls and block your photos, which is annoying. This is sort of instagram paradise. There are a lot of people crowding the waterfalls because of how close the pool is to the road. Maybe go early? We arrived at about 1pm on a Thursday. ‬
