In addition to the painting mentioned in the book, the museum is a cool set of many small historic buildings. At the moment there is a cool German WW1 era plane.

The Brome County museum is a wonderful spot to visit and enjoy a walk back in time. The dedicated staff work hard to preserve the history of Brome County and create varied and interesting displays. There are some truly unique treasures to see, I strongly recommend a tour.

Liked this museum, it tells you a lot about the local history. Great idea to visit with the whole family.

Provides many interesting insights into the founding of Knowlton and the early life of the townspeople. I especially enjoyed the house of the founder, and the exhibit on the orphans and poor children sent to Canada from England for "distribution", to work on farms.

This is one of those quintessential "who knew?" places that can make a trip. The museum is comprised of several buildings, all differently themed. The WWI history portion is extraordinary, highlighted by an original D-VII Fokker biplane still in 1917 condition that was a war prize in honor of the area's contributions to the war, but with an extensive collection of other WWI artifacts, including German mortars, machine guns, uniforms, riflery, photographs, and other items. Really terrific. Also included are an old general store, a schoolhouse (now devoted to telling the story of orphaned children who came to Canada), a settler's home, an Irish uprising, and many others. Even if you're not a devotee of Louise Penny (c'est possible?), come to Knowlton for this. You won't regret it.

The Museum has such a lot of interesting history packed into a well organised and well presented space. Worth several visits!

Interesting displays of military memorabilia, including a German plane from WWI. A nicely reconstructed cabin from early settlers.

ブロム湖畔の小さな町には不釣り合いなほど立派な博物館ですが、アメリカ独立戦争を逃れたイギリス王党派の人たちが最初に開拓したのが、この地域だそうです。かつての教会、裁判所、学校、消防署などを集めた園内は美しく整備されていて、それぞれの建物の中にある、昔の生活を偲ばせる展示や映像資料も充実しています。世界で３機しか残っていないという、第一次大戦時のドイツのフォッカー飛行機は目玉ですが、なぜこんな所にあるのかは、館員の人に聞いてみましょう。

Pour 20 $ familial, nous avons passé 1 heure dans ce musée au grand plaisir des enfants. En effet, ils ont joué dans le coin "magasin général" avec un coin magasin, coloriage, tissage, jardin, poussette avec Tv. Nous avons beaucoup appris sur l'immigration des orphelins à Knowlton. L'ancienne caserne a aussi été apprécié par tous. Bref, un beau moment pour tous.

I've never been to the Eastern Townships before and am unfamiliar with Canadian history. A friend and I were visiting Knowlton on a day trip to see sites associated with Louise Penny's marvelous Three Pines mysteries. A picture that plays a role in one of the books is on display here. We came to see the picture but enjoyed so many other exhibits.
The hands-on children's areas - a wooden vegetable garden to harvest, a dollhouse, a printing activity, etc. - are delightful. The WWI exhibits are priceless, including a rare Fokker plane. There is a very special sword display that's not to be missed, but I won't give away what makes it so appealing.
My favorite part of the museum, though, was the stories of the Homes Children program of the early 20th Century. The story of these young people is depicted in a way I'll never forget.
Knowlton is a charming village, and this is one of its treasures.
