One of my favourite places to visit and shop in Taipei is a farmers market in a street by the Yongchun metro stop, which is a stop on the blue metro line.
This is not a morning market but one which starts setting up around 2 pm in the afternoon. Once set up, locals stop here to grocery shop on the way home from work later. It is a narrow street where vendors have shops or stalls on both sides of the street. There is even a building under cover, housing butcher shops, a coffee shop, a tailor.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat, cooked foods, fried foods, tofu, BBQ'd foods, baked foods, steamed foods, long stewed foods are all here, plus more.
There are a number of very affordable housewares stores too, as well as fashion clothing and footwear stores. The variety of items here for sale make this market very attractive for shopping and because it is not a touristy night market, but mainly a food market for locals, the prices are very low and affordable.
I loved buying roast duck breast, cooked, ready to eat cellophane noodles, deep fried chicken pieces, peeled pineapple to take home to eat for meals.
This is such a favourite food market of mine, that I kept going back there to shop, even though I was staying in a different district.
