This historic shrine is dedicated to Zheng Cheng-gong, known in the West as Koxinga. He is variously described as a pirate and an admiral, but he was an important figure in the history of Taiwan. He resisted the establishment on the Ching Dynasty (1644-1911), which was the last dynasty in China's history. The panels are informative; the ancient plum tree in the shrine's gardens may have been planted by Koxinga himself.

Koxinga, known in Chinese as Zheng Cheng-gong, was a Ming Dynasty loyalist who resisted the conquest of Taiwan by the Manchus, who had established the Ching Dynasty (1644-1911). He also defeated the Dutch, who then occupied Taiwan. Koxinga is an important figure in Taiwan's history. The temple has a well-set out garden. The temple is characteristic of old-time China, with a handsomed green tile roof, rust red walls and spreading banyan trees. The ancient plum tree at the rear of the temple is said to have been planted by Koxinga himself.

供奉的是明朝的延平郡王鄭成功
他驅逐了荷蘭人,讓台灣重回漢族的統治
祭祀的郡祠肅穆莊嚴,讓人緬懷ㄧ代賢人
庭園環境非常優雅,漫步其間,身心舒暢~

Very open and actually surprisingly sparse. The gardens around the shrine are very elaborate, but we when we were there they weren't in bloom. The museum is next door.

國小五年級的社會課本正在教明鄭時期的歷史
所以特別帶小朋友來「延平郡王祠」探訪歷史
這裡正殿有鄭成功神像
兩側則有「萬禮將軍」和「甘輝將軍」陪祀
兩邊祠堂則有一些歷史介紹
旁邊小公園還有很多不怕人的松鼠在覓食或等餵食
來這散散步看看歷史還不錯
所以特別帶小朋友來「延平郡王祠」探訪歷史

Koxinga was the man who defeated the Dutch in 17th century, conquering the Anping fort, and is highly appreciated in Taiwan's history. So no surprise to see his shrine in Tainan. There's a temple, a park and a statue of Koxinga. Nothing special but worth a look if it's on your way.

De tempel is anders dan de andere tempels. Hier wordt een generaal, die de Hollanders verdreven heeft in de 17de eeuw, vereerd. Vooral de geschiedenis is belangrijk

Sì trova a pochissimi passi dal tempio di Confucio e merita una visita. Molto pittoresco il giardino, civ i una piccola pagoda ed un laghetto.

This park and shrine are both beautiful and peaceful. Just off a main road so it is very easy to access, but once inside it feels like you are in the countryside. The park is beautifully laid out with ponds, pagodas and the shrine. The buildings themselves are beautifully painted, and inside you can read the history of Koxinga, which was very helpful in terms of understanding the local history of Tainan. It was also an excellent place for kids to experience living history as they explored the rooms.
