The tour was designed to fit in with the time the Alaska Railroad was in Seward, and it was done very well. The first stop on the tour was the Seavey compound. This family has won several Iditarod races and they are dedicated to the 'musher' world. The ride in the training sled was OK, and handling the puppies was nice. The information, precise and detailed was excellent. Learning about changing the booties of 14 dogs at every rest station was just one of the fascinating technical things learned about how dogs and mushers endure the race.
The next evolution was the hike to the Exit Glacier overlook. It was a challenge for an 82 year old with heart issues, but was worth the effort. The amazing thing was how far the glacier has retreated in just the last 60 years.
Our tour guide/driver next took us on a tour through Seward proper, giving an excellent narration of the sights and history.
Lunch at the Seasalt restaurant was excellent. The visit to the fish weir was interesting.
This tour was done in conjunction with the Alaska Railroad day trip from Anchorage and is an excellent tour for the time in Seward.

Everything was great, from communication leading up to the tour, to the tour guide, Michaela, who was awesome! Of course the dogs were the highlight.

Enjoyable experience for travelers of all ages. Lots of interesting information shared about the work and preparation needed for the Iditarod. The personnel on-site were clearly bonded to the dogs and did a great job introducing us to them, including the newborn pups. There is nothing comparable to hearing the excitement of the dogs as they get hooked up to the cart and feeling the energy that is released once the gate is opened and they start pulling the cart. A must-do for visitors in the Seward area!

ACTUALLY VISITED JUNE 2019. However, my review was sitting in DRAFTS rather than being posted. My mistake, I guess, but since I took the time to write a review after visiting, I wanted to post it anyway. Here is what I wrote at the time of my visit:
The Ididaride Tour consists of several parts. We visited their kennels to meet the dogs and puppies. The race dogs pulled us on a sled with wheels. They were so ready to run! We saw some equipment the racers use and saw the winners trophy. From here we went to Resurrection Roadhouse for a nice lunch which is included in the tour. Then we went to Exit Glacier. You will hike about a mile or so if you want to get to the glacier overlook for some great photos. Part of this is paved and the rest is gravel. After the hike, we then went to see the salmon swimming , saw the Iditarod race Mile 0 marker, and saw a bit of downtown Seward. This was such a fun excursion because you get to do and see things that are not in many places ....I mean, where are you going to see Iditarod champs?? The dogs are well cared for and were so much fun to see and pet. They count the puppies when they put them back .... to make sure no one keeps one of those cute, cute dogs for themselves! Ha! Highly recommend!

Awesome experience at Seavey's. We got to meet some champion sled dogs and feel the excitement of being pulled by a team of canine athletes. Petting sessions and puppy cuddles are free with the tour. Highly reccomended.

It's been said a few times, but this was the best thing we did in Alaska. Puppy cuddles, one-on-one time with sled dogs and a fun demo of how the huskies are kitted out for the Iditarod race.
Everyone at Seavey's is knowledgeable and fun. The free shuttle offered from Seward made it extra convenient. Just wish I could go back and join the team of mushers!

This is something to do if your waiting to catch the train. The ride with the dogs is about 10 minutes long. The rest of the time your looking at puppies which are cute, and learning a little about the race. We had a new tour guide she had a bit of information but not really interested in the Ididotrod race. Not worth the fee charged. Petting the dogs was the best part.

Favorite part? It was all great - from the historical stories, of course, to the sled ride, patting the dogs, holding the puppies, and learning about the Iditarod, it was awesome!!! This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Don't miss it! It's not Alaska without a sled dog tour.

We had a car but I heard things that that possible. I would get a hold of the tour place and after 6 via Facebook is a good time since they are very busy with tours all day.

Hello!
We have a tour scheduled with you for July at the Seward location. Do you have adequate parking for a 32" RV? If not, where do you recommend we park?
Thanks!

We took a tour with Danny about 9 years ago, just us in a Van. I see you are now using a bus. Could you please tell me how many people you now take on these tours. Thank you

It sounds like you joined me for the Real Alaska Tour, hope you had a good time! We do have a couple small buses, but we often use vans in the shoulder seasons or for overflow on busy days. Getting a private tour is pretty rare, I wouldn't count on that. Depends a lot on the day, if you email us we could tell you roughly what to expect. Thank you, Danny

Yea, they give us plenty of time to cuddle with the puppies. They are sooooo adorable. You also will get a chance to meet with the sled team members. And they gave us some education on dog sledding. So much fun

We are pressed for time. Can we come by and meet the sled dogs and the Seaveys.
We would love to take the helicopter up and ride on the sled, I just don't think we can fit it in. Our schedule is somewhat tight. But I am a really big fan and would love to meet the dogs.

It is not guaranteed that you will meet the Seavey's while at their ground tour base in Seward, also they do not offer the helicopter tour in Seward, they offer that out of Girdwood, AK but they don't offer the ground tour there. It's best to call as you may be confusing the 2 and they are 1 1/2 hour apart in driving time

What is the surface of the 1 mile hike to glacier.... gravel, paved, wood? and is the hike uphill? are there any footbridges over canyons or crevices?

Daytona Beach, فلوريدا87 مساهمة
The 1 mile hike to Exit glacier is partially paved, some gravel and some dirt. It's fairly easy...uphill some, but not too steep. No footbridges, but you have to step across a couple of small creeks/streams.

We are embarking the cruise ship at 1:30 pm in Seward but the ship does not depart until 8 pm. Is there a way to catch the sled tour before departure?

We have a free shuttle that picks up / drops off at the cruise terminal. Count 2.5 hours total for the tour and RT transfer. Danny

We are travelling with a small group to Alaska next year (May 2017), and will be spending a few days in Anchorage prior to boarding our cruise ship.
We are all very interested in the dog sled tour, but we have been told by others who have traveled to Alaska before us that in order to participate in a true dog sled adventure, in the snow, we would either have to travel by helicopter to the top of a glacier or ride the sled in a grassy meadow.
Are we able to do this in the snow in May???
The website for dallasseavey under the heading "Anchorage-sled-dog-tours" doesn't seem specific on this point.

Their sledding in the snow to Exit glacier is December to March. In May the snow has cleared already, so it's true that the only way you'll get to experience sled dogs in snow in May is with a helicopter (which Seavey's offers too). Have a great trip!
