It was last June 2023. One of our favorite hikes. We hiked good many trails in The Tetons but this is my personal favorite. Were going back June 2024 and this time we'll take a little radio so I don't have to worry about bears plus a nice picnic lunch. Like i said, my favorite hike.

What a pleasant surprise! We enjoyed a really nice hike and beautiful views of the woods and streams. The lake is stunning - we sat and enjoyed the atmosphere for 30 minutes.

Quiet in the morning and less busy than other nearby areas. It was a great place to start the day. Saw a hummingbird.

The Rockefeller name looms large in the history of America's national parks, where multiple generations of the family have contributed to multiple parks. The LSR Preserve is a relatively late addition to GTNP, but contains varied landscapes that extend the park's reach. There are trails (Phelps Lake) and a main road (Moose-Wilson Rd.) to explore. There's also a Preserve Center. We didn't visit the center but its website says "The center will orient you to the area and offers a series of unique sensory exhibits that highlight the visual, auditory, and tactile qualities of the Preserve's plants and wildlife." It's a beautiful part of the park.

This loop is our favorite short walk in the park…fairly level, beautiful reward (Phelps Lake). This time the river trail section was closed due to bear activity.

The trails were nice and lush and got to see black bears, but it seems like they spent millions on a modern building that has nothing in it and they had no money left over for a larger parking lot??? Nice fancy building was not necessary..could of used money elsewhere for improvements in the park.

Go before 9 a.m. to get one of 50 parking spots! Be prepared for sudden weathwr changes -- layers are your friend! Although the hike is listed as easy by some, at least one ranger agreed easy/moderate as there are some seriously rocky stretches which require careful placement of feet. That said, this 68 year old, double hip replacement, used her hiking poles and completed Lake Creek Trail to Phelps Lake, enjoyed the view, commuted with the chipmunks, and used the restroom at the lake [nice touch NPS].
The stretch near the lake towards Woodland Trail is under reconstruction so my husband and I returned to a cut-across trail to the Woodland Trail. CAUTION: This stretch is less traveled, narrower and much steeper in parts, but again, doable. Adds about half a mile to the trip total. Our total time, including layover at the lake was 3 hours and 20 minutes, but many were doing Lake Creek Trail up and back much more quickly. We personally spotted no wildlife while there but were mule deer spotted by others.

This section of the park commemorates the contribution of the Rockefeller family to making this wonderful national park possible. A small visitor center offers insight into their appreciation of this land and ultimate donation to the country. Walking trails provide beautiful scenery. Parking is limited, so get there early.

This park has some nice, wooded hiking trails, but not much more. It would be nice if there were more signs along the way describing what we were seeing. The visitors center was closed for the winter, even though this was early in October. We did have to wait about twenty minutes for a parking spot to become available.

We headed out towards the lake - it was a nice walk with amazing views. The visitors center is also a must see. The architecture was breathtaking - nestled in the mountains/valley. And the varied scenery was incredible.

WHat is the weather like in the first 2 weeks in Wyoming? Are most things open? Hiking possible?

Wyoming in November will be cold. Expect snow and cold, windy, temperatures. The summer activities will be closed but the winter activities will be ramping up. So instead of taking a nice float down the river or riding a bike on one of the trails, you will be skiing, snowshoeing, hunting or other fall/winter activities.

Is the smoke and visibility bad right now from the forest fires near by?

Unfortunately the smoke is awful. Not a good day to be hiking today. Sorry it took so long to respond to your question, as we work to keep our dogs happy with those TREATS.

Is it still busy mid September
Daniel B
جاكسون, Wyoming33 مساهمة
Certainly not as busy as mid summer, still active though. September has other challenges, wildlife is very active late August/September. Sometimes the road is closed because of bear activity. However the fall colors make it a wonderful time to visit!

How do I reserve 4 spots for August 27 or 28 2017 for the ranger led walk? I called the number but it is closed for the season.

Unfortunately as with the other two answers to your question I can't tell you how to reserve spaces for a ranger tour. We went on our own, and I agree with Marieg295 that the trails are well marked and it's nice to do them at your own pace. Also, the visitors centers both here and for Grand Teton Park are well worth visiting.

Is there any type of entrance fee?
lovestobike
Englewood, Colorado166 مساهمة
No, but parking is tricky. You have to wait for a space, since they only allow a certain number in the area at any given time. The only entrance fee is the National Park entrance fee.

How far is the Preserve from King Snow resort?
James T

The trip from Jackson to the Moose intersection in Grand Teton is a easy 20 minute straight shot. Moose road, however, is a popular trip on a few miles of relatively narrow back road, get there early etc. I don't think RVs are allowed and I understand that the park is considering restrictions on number of cars that can go back there. Check ahead.

No, and not a good idea. We crossed paths with a Black Bear.

Visit Yellowstone NP, which airport best land from Orlando Fl.

I believe Bozeman, MT is the nearest and best for Yellowstone. We stayed in Jackson, so we landed in Idaho Falls. That was very convenient and less expensive.
