‪My husband and I are always looking for new areas to explore so when I read about this trail we brought our bicycles up on a perfect fall day. We left from the Wes Block Trailhead which had plenty of parking and cleanish pit toilets. We rode on a very well maintained wide and level trail through the most beautiful countryside! Many wetlands and streams on both sides of the trail with solid wooden bridges crossing them, limestone “walls” created by the chiseling out of the railbed with trees on top creating green tunnels, rolling hills in the distance (thankfully the trail was essentially flat!), areas of big bluestem prairies, and even sandhill cranes in the wetland area near Orangeville. We encountered very few people during our 20 mile round trip to Orangeville and back. Because of the numerous wetland and boggy areas I would imagine that mosquitoes could be a problem in the summer. We plan to return in early spring to see the wildflowers. We were happy that we brought a picnic lunch and ate it in a shelter in Orangeville because I did not see any restaurants or delicatessen along the way. We will definitely return and maybe begin in Orangeville to travel north into Wisconsin on the Badger trail. ‬

‪I decided to investigate this bike trail during the July 4th holiday. I was so pleasantly surprised. There was hardly a soul on it, so it is very pandemic and socially distanting friendly. There are several bridges and from the west trail head it is almost totally shaded from the sun. A great ole railroad bed that is just amazing. I ran into a few mosquitos over by the Sciota Mills rest area however that was the only negative I could find on this trip. The 4 miles from Freeport to west trail head does not have much shade so be prepared for sun on that stretch. The trail is fee free, well maintained, has several rest stops, and bountiful interesting views. Grab your bike and a bottle of water and sit back and enjoy the ride!‬

‪Beautiful scenery and a couple small towns along the way to stop for a bite. Also two port a potty’s , one at the trail head and one a few miles in. We stopped in Orangeville at a bar/grill close to the bike path for lunch. The bike path is an old railroad track so it’s crushed rock and compacted dirt in some areas. The path was a bit slick in spots from all the rain this year. Not sure if there was supposed to be water on each side of the trail most of the way, could of been from flooding but was very cool and there were quite a few water birds. The covered bridges were also neat! Only saw a few other riders and a couple walkers even with gorgeous weather that day, but previous days had been heavy rain. We tried to ride to the famous creamery in the area, but the bike trail going that way was flooded so we rode back to our truck and drove there. Was delicious!!! Definitely go there , it’s very vintage and they serve food and ice cream. Overall we really enjoyed the ride it wasn’t overly long but being crushed rock and slick in some spots made it a bit more rugged so felt longer than it really was.‬

‪A must do for bikers/runners/walkers in Freeport, IL area. This 17 mile trail goes from East side of Freeport all the way to Illinois/Wisconsin border. Beautiful tree shaded trail on former railroad tracks. Lots of clearly marked signs, historic buildings, farms, rivers, and lots of bugs (be prepared).‬

‪Forget Sugar River Trail, no need to head up into Baraboo or west towards Lapham Peak, the Jane Addams Recreation Trail is a fantastic walking trail with minimum disruption. Easy to find from Monroe WI, as you approach Orangeville just look for the BP station. A large pavillion and 15-20 parking stalls with two pit toilets mark the start of the trail head. We love the trail because bicycles or peds alike can easily maneuver around, and the trail is in great shape. Maps are also available at the trailhead, but a strong signal strength on your smart device can also capture / display where you are.

Crossing the highway is not as difficult as it sounds, lengthy straightaways make traffic visible for at least a mile in either direction. There are no water stations along the route, pack water or grab something from the BP before arriving. A beautiful covered bridge greets you early on the trail, several more spanways along the creeks and riverbed. Benches are rare, but there are some along the trail. About 2 miles from trailhead is the butterfly park, well marked and easy access.

A great trail to spend a few hours on, be mindful if you need water or breaks as those are limited. New favorite trail in the area, recommend to all.‬

‪Traveled to Freeport on business and needed to get some steps in. Parking for the trailhead wasn't easy to find. Look for Baymont Inn, drive to the right, and go past the sign for the trailhead. Eventually, you'll see parking (I turned back at first and missed it). After parking, you can go left or right. I went left at first and found that the trail ended after about 1 mile. Sign said it was open to snowmobiles only. But, the short walk includes a scenic bridge and lots of nice vegetation/wildlife. If you turn right instead, the trail appears to go on for miles and miles. Due to time constraints, I walked about 3 miles and turned back. Its a flat walk with plenty of shade. Didn't see anyone most of the time, except a couple on bicycles. Trail is compacted soil. It's wide, with little or no obstruction from roots or rocks. A few mosquitoes here and there. One got me.‬

‪We ride the Jane Addams bike trail regularly. We love it because it's mostly flat terrain. We pick it up from Tutty's Crossing in downtown Freeport. It's well-maintained and very pretty to bike. If you're really ambitious, you can ride all the way to the Wisconsin border.‬

‪this is a great way to spend several hours on your bike. The trail is a old train railway bed and is basically flat so its easy riding but there is a lot of nice picture taking opportunities along the way so if you ride from Freeport to Orangeville it is about 12 miles or so one way. We ride to orangeville and back which is a nice time‬
